Not at all. As I said I’m glad she’s cleared it up, especially as she lives round here

She’s sneering at her voters. It’s not unique. Her background tells you all you need to know. Hopefully MPs like her continue to run Labour into the ground

"Hopefully MPs like her continue to run Labour into the ground". Well you've shown your true colours there! In the real world, Labour have moved up noticeably in the UK polls over the past few weeks, while the Tories and Reform have both dipped.

Morning Flash - you knew my true colours! Labour have been regularly polling lower whilst in government that Major's zombie Conservatives in the 1990s. The recent polling is a little favourable after Andy's coronation, but I predict that will evaporate post budget.

I thought you liked to be seen as the middle of the road voice of reason. Ah well. Not sure what Major or the 90s has to do with anything, we're talking about now. You asserted Labour MPs are running Labour into the ground, when the truth is they're up in the polls and your lot (whichever they are) are down.

LOL, as if anything a politician says pushes pub takings one way or the other!

My Major reference was to highlight that this current government is polling historically low for a government in office, especially one after 2.5 years, that's with the Burnham bounce. I am fairly middle of the road, economically right-wing, social liberal. But I don't like tax and spend, that's why I didn't vote for them last time round. I am currently not planning to vote in 2029, unless Kemi wins me round. I do like her, but I don't see a coherent set of supportable policies. I do think think that the continued 'professionalisation' of Labour MPs is to their long term detriment.

The pubs I frequent are always full of dags. They don’t do posh sausages either ! (Not the four legged type either ) 😂

Well. The Chancellor is a politician I believe. Currently pubs have High business rates, Raised minimum wages Alcohol duty at about 50p a pint Plus 20% VAT. No wonder they are closing at a rate of two a day. All those jobs going. Livelihoods destroyed. All those taxes lost. People now being supported by the state that were standing on their own two feet. But that is ok. We can always borrow some more . So says the politician Chancellor. But we are told that nothing one of them says makes a difference.

I was clearly talking about an off-the-cuff comment as in the OP, not policy. Policy is more than "just saying something". The chancellor has been in the job 2 and a half months. If he's the reason pubs have been closing rapidly (for years) that's actually quite impressive!

All very true. But on the other hand he has no excuse for not knowing what is happening. By his actions later this month shall we judge him. My local employs 10 people. Landlord, bar staff, cooks, cleaners etc. So if that is the average, which I imagine it is, that is 20 livelihoods a day effected, 600 a month probably not now paying tax. Surely it is now time to give the hospitality sector a break. Tax less, make more.

None of that is what I was talking about. I was talking about off-the-cuff comments politicians make not affecting things much. You've gone in on what the chancellor might do in a future budget. If you want to talk about a completely different subject, then yes I imagine a tax break would be welcome for the hospitality sector (as I imagine it would be for quite a lot of sectors). But there's probably a bit more to it than that. Pubs have been closing at a rate of knots for many years, so it seems a bit harsh to be blaming this new government, let alone what the new chancellor might do in the future. The cost of living crisis, which again has been going on several years, and is due to many factors, is probably more why pubs are struggling. Going to the pub for a few drinks/a meal is an expensive time these days.
