"The more games you play, the more consistent you become. You get calmer in goal and understand the position more, like what to do in the box, when to come out or when to stay. " If the dropping was a shock to some like me. It must have been a shock to him. He possibly felt he was beginning to get a bit of an understanding of things.

I suspect he means you learn how to play with the players around you, eg some defenders are so strong in the air that it's better for a keeper to leave it to the defender to clear, rather than coming to try to claim, risking getting in a tangle with players and ending up giving the ball to the attackers whilst in a compromised position. Football is just as much about connections as it is about skill, as we know with the double-promotion squad.

| Goalkeeper.com on 13:26 - Oct 22 with 586 views | DJR | I am not passing any judgment on Scherpen but talk of Goalkeeper.com brings to mind Muric. Here are articles on a couple of recent games which suggest he is still prone to more than the odd horror. https://www.yardbarker.com/soc "On Muric: "Will I continue to put my faith in him? It’s hard to say now. I have great faith in him and in my players. Mistakes can happen; I wouldn’t draw conclusions just yet," reports TMW. " Obviously, we need to improve, but let’s not put all the blame on anyone"." https://sports.yahoo.com/artic "Muric, what are you doing? But this is where Muric's horror show begins. In the 26th minute, he tries to punch away a low ball, only to knock it against Raimondo's leg. The ball stays at the number nine's feet, and he gratefully taps it home. Before Sassuolo can even react, Muric does it again in the 30th minute: Palmisani kicks long, and Caleta-Car's poor headed back-pass forces his goalkeeper out of the box. Muric, however, somehow does even worse, misjudging the bounce and letting the ball sail over him. Raimondo can hardly believe his luck and taps into an empty net—again." Despite some on here who staunchly support him, we couldn't have someone like him in the team. And as with Scherpen, we are much better to leave it to the judgment of the manager in question who has much more expertise than we do. [Post edited 22 Oct 13:27]

I would imagine it is a confidence thing as much as anything. I would imagine much the same is true of outfield players too. Strikers on a scoring run find goalscoring natural and easy. Defenders on great form are naturally in the right position etc. Of course, knowing the players around you and how they play makes a massive difference too. I agree with Frimmers that it would probably have felt harsh and quick to him when he was told he was dropped. I trust O'Neill will have managed it well. Hopefully when he next gets his chance he will grab it with both hands and be determined not to lose his place again.

| Goalkeeper.com on 19:40 - Oct 22 with 355 views | Swansea_Blue | Agreed Frimmers. Based on him being a feature of pre-season after he signed and then starting the first few games in the PL suggests he wasn’t signed as backup. He must have been our idea for number 1. And presumably his too. He’s probably mature enough to know how it works yet it must still have been a shock to be dropped and can’t be what we had hoped would happen. | |

Walton was injured though, so I am not sure we can be certain one way or the other.
