Walking 60 miles for Prostate Cancer Research in November 18:54 - Oct 25 with 1056 viewsPinewoodblue

I have signed to walk 60 miles for Prostate Cancer in November. I am cautious optimistic of succeeding. The cancer has spread extensively throughout my skeleton, including ankle, knees and groin. It’s going to be painful and I expect to give it a miss a few days.

This from Prostate Cancer Research explains the need.

You may know a lot about the work we do or not very much, but either way, we want you to know more about where your money goes so you can communicate this to anyone who sponsors you.  It will also keep you super motivated throughout your Walk 60 Miles Challenge this November!

What we’re trying to fix

Over 12,000 men die annually from a cancer that could be caught early with proper screening. Behind these statistics are fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends whose lives were cut short by a system that's failing them. Not forgetting the impact on family members, wives in particular.
The numbers that drive our mission:
* 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
* For Black men, this rises to 1 in 4 – double the risk
* Despite being the most common cancer in men, there's still no national screening programme
At Prostate Cancer Research, we believe new research will breed new discoveries, which will in turn lead to innovative treatments for advanced prostate cancer.
Every pound you raise through the Walk 60 Miles Challenge brings us closer to a future where no man dies from prostate cancer.
This is why every step matters.
Share your fundraising page and let everyone know the reason why you're taking on the challenge: https://www.justgiving.com/id/

If you feel able to sponsor it will give me extra motivation to complete the task.

Well done Pinewood, great cause and every man needs to know about this and get tested early. I produced the 1st film about my journey 5 years ago, and the youngest patient I interviewed who had advanced cancer, was only 41 yrs old. Still alive thank goodness!

For those with an interest there is a Parliamentary debate on the subject of Prostate Cancer screening 4.30pm today, can be watched on YouTube. This is as a result of over 100,000 signing a petition. The Prostate Cancer charity behind it asked people to ask their MP to attend. They provided a template email. Over 500 did so. Just wonder how many will attend and hopefully speak out in favour.

Grateful thanks to those who have already sponsored me.

Good luck and well done with what you are doing.

Hopefully the majority of MPs will vote for screening. It’s a no brainer really as are all screening programmes and preventative measures.

I don’t start my daily walks until Sunday but amazingly donation are already approaching £500, and I haven’t started pushing family and friends yet. A really mind blowing donation, £100, has been made anonymously. If it a TWTDer thank you very much.
