| Poor decisions and no clean sheets. 08:40 - Nov 1 with 1017 views | bsw72 | Want to open with I’m a big fan of O’Shea and I cannot question his effort or commitment but over the last few weeks there have been a couple of questionable moments/decisions which have cost us at least two goals. The backing off yesterday and the failure to be strong and clear the ball against Forest have cost us goals and points. He may have been fouled against Forest but should have been putting that ball in the stand as the priority. Both are not to do with ability, more about decision making so hopefully something he can address. The defence has got to cut out mistakes, its decisions and concentration which has been costing us and the fact that we have not had a single clean sheet this season is becoming a genuine concern. | | | | |

Whilst we could possibly do with a better keeper I'd let Walton and Scherpen fight it out for this season. We also must play Maeda to give Leif more protection.

| Poor decisions and no clean sheets. on 09:45 - Nov 1 with 797 views | longtimefan | Not that O’Shea was anything near the root cause of the first goal - where were the lefhand side of the defence - but I can’t really understand why he failed to move across to stop the progress into the box. I can’t only assume he’d got completely lost positionally and didn’t know where the goal was or he’d assumed no one was covering behind him and was expecting the scorer to slip the ball inside to an unmarked player. In either case either Walton or Ouattara who was covering should have been telling him to close the scorer down, | | | |

I agree there should have been better shape but he gave the guy a free run at least put some pressure on even if you can't make the tackle. He basically walked the ball into the goal.

You’re joking right? Defence is pushing up and pressing the Hull players, including Davis, however O’Shea and Diop have failed to push up leaving 5+ yards behind Davis playing every one of the attackers pushing forward onside (error 1) O’Shea compounds this error by failing to come across and force the Hull attacker either wide or into making a pass across, despite looking over his shoulder 3 times clearly seeing Diop in the centre. Diop and O’Shea made the first mistake, then O’Shea made completely the wrong decision defensively.

Easy from the stands, isn't it.

This was not a complex tactical move from Hull which left us exposed at the back, it was a long ball over the top. Pretty easy to spot on the pitch as well as the stands. it was a bizarre decision not to close the attacker down. If you listen the BBC commentary even the commentator stifles a laugh when describing it. I genuinely can’t fathom how O’Shea failed to do the basics on this one as he is without doubt a good defender.

I would have been embarrassed if I'd made that mistake in a match. It was a shocker! But that said, he'll know that and there's nothing to be gained by me criticising him on here over and over.

| Poor decisions and no clean sheets. on 16:20 - Nov 1 with 383 views | grow_our_own | Two things can both be true. O'Shea was at fault for Hull's first yesterday & lost possession for Fulham's goal, and O'Shea has generally also been a class act throughout his time at ITFC. A mistake or two doesn't mean jettisoning a good player. He also scored the winner vs Fulham. I've been much more comfortable watching his partnership with Diop than Greaves'. O'Shea's mistake yesterday can easily be coached out. He was right to initially block the pass and push Iroegbunam wide, but got the timing wrong when he finally decided to close down the shot. O'Shea often gets himself out of trouble with his pace. Greaves ball-watches. Plays strikers onside and fails to track runners. This is more about instinct and awareness, a more fundamental flaw in his game that has been going on for years. I'm not sure Greaves will ever be a good game reader. | | | |
