Is that a sound recommendation from you for nationalising UK industries and infrastructure then? Excellent.

Point of order, most of their income is from E&P and subsequent exports. Even Corbyn’s Labour only promised to nationalise the supply (utility) companies. Eg BP, Shell etc was never on the cards, though many of his supporters seem to have missed that nuance. No doubt the profit will go into stockpiling weapons rather than investing in Saudi’s post- fossil fuel future.

You do realise they are almost entirely state owned? Statoil/Equinor regularly make huge profits for the Norwegian state. [Post edited 15 Aug 2022 8:45]

Sure. But we’re talking about a company making billions in profit, from damaging but currently necessary commodities. And it certainly seems like the world is set up to defend the right to make money over the needs and ability to pay of people and the planet. In any case, these aren’t socialised profits or revenue given we’re talking about the Saudi rulers.

Okay the “growth and profit” comment suggested you implied shareholders. The worlds largest oil producer isn’t particularly on board with a rapid transition either: “Last year the Saudi energy minister, Abdulaziz bin Salman, stated the kingdom’s vision clearly: “We are still going to be the last man standing, and every molecule of hydrocarbon will come out.” Most nocs will share this sentiment for the foreseeable future. It is a testament to lamentable climate inaction that even the slightest state-led de-browning can seem almost encouraging” [Post edited 15 Aug 2022 9:17]
