Tomorrow myself, mrs F and the little F’s take possession of.. on 19:27 - Dec 1 with 4227 views | MedwayTractor | Once he (or she) is on adult food, get him/her onto one of the raw meat diets. Both my sons' have their dogs on this type of food, it is the natural food for dogs, not the tinned & processed muck. Apart from being good for the dog, it is good for everybody else, as what comes out of the other end is dry and almost odourless, not the awful stinking slimy stuff. Their first try was with raw meat from the butcher, including chicken (dogs can eat raw chicken, only cooked chicken is dangerous because of brittle bones). Both dogs are now on one of the minced products, you can buy it frozen in bulk. PM me if you would like to know the brand they use. One other food tip - chocolate for human consumption is (allegedly) poisonous to dogs. look here: https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pet-advice/chocolate-poisoning-in-dogs.html

I took on a rescue English Cocker back in August 2014 and he had major behaviour problems but by the time he was sadly put to sleep in June this year due to stomach cancer, he was such a loving little dog.Turning him around and giving him a loving home is one of the greatest things I've done so far in my life, it's so satisfying. Cocker's are mad, energetic and fun and they're great companions. I miss Alfie every single day he hasn't been here. You are basically taking on a new best mate. One other thing I will say about Cocker's, if you plan on taking them anywhere with water, trust me, take a towel!

Chocolate is poisonous for humans too - but the fatal dose is something like 30lbs in a day.

Everyone has their own version of what's best to feed their dogs. My dogs had a varied diet but, in the main part, dried food - Eukaneuba or Pro Plan - at the core.

One mistake we made was letting our dog sleep in our bed the 1st night & it took us 2 months to get her to sleep downstairs. I assume you’ll be using the puppy pads for house training? Don’t lay them all over your house, it’ll think that they can p1ss/sh1t where they want. Put one by the back door & they’ll be trained in no time. Also make sure you socialise it with other dogs asap, nothing worse than a shy dog that doesn’t like to play with others.

Good one, it’ll be in a crate and play pen rather than our bed I hope! He’ll be near the back door so pads in his pen and by the door only

Tomorrow myself, mrs F and the little F’s take possession of.. on 21:01 - Dec 1 with 4073 views | Durovigutum | Our Working Cocker is almost 11 and going strong, but I fear the day she dies as it will feel as if part of me will go with her.... Dogs are great, Cockers are utterly bonkers. They are fairly easy to train and you really must do so as soon as possible. Remember it is a dog, they are pack animals and you will do it a huge favour by ensuring that it understands you (and the rest of the family) are all above it in the pecking order. Things like making it wait at the door while everyone else goes in first. Not letting it sit on the sofa, especially if you are on the floor. If you do let it on the sofa only by your invite, not by it asking. You can do raw diet, buy frozen chicken wings or fresh and freeze (the freeze kills the bugs), defrost a few at a time and give one at a time. It is expensive. We get dried food from Millies Wolfheart - if you look at the composition of supermarket dried and wet food you will be shocked to see major brands with as little as 9% meat. The money goes on advertising! Walk the dog for at least 20 minutes twice a day. Clean up after it. Please.

Many a student has said similar to you about letting a dog sleep with them on the first night and then taking 2 months to get rid of her...

I was there as usual yesterday seeing the preparations. The locals counselled against it, and two hours at the Bury Fayre the other week was more than enough for me.

By locals I assume you mean residents. The local shops/pubs that were open were doing well from it by looks of things; Butchers seemed to be knocking out a few cooked rolls outside and the pubs were busy. Even the art shop was making sales to people from out of town. The trade is clearly welcome. It's not for me I have to say, but people seem to be havng fun. Santa was cleaning up.
