Dinner thread. 21:47 - Jan 25 with 24643 views | Lord_Lucan | I went walkabout and all I wanted was an ordinary pub with some ordinary pub food. I chose the coach and horses and the pub is fine. I then ordered a belly pork and a side of chips. The main courses don’t come with accompaniments and they had no mash so I was stuck with chips which was weird I thought with pork belly but hey ho. Anyhoo, the bloody pork belly was served on a 5” square piece of slate and the chips were in a small metal bucket. Why do places do this stupid pretentious crap? By the way the chips were blooming lovely - suprisingly brilliant. The pork was cooked to perfection but alas I fear come from a council house pig.

I’ll bank that info, thanks. The best pub food I have ever had in my life was quite recently in The Cherry Tree in Woodbridge, that was belly pork as well. It was bloody sensational.

If you go for Sunday lunch book up as it is popular for a reason. I'll give The Cherry Tree a go in the summer.
Dinner thread. on 22:08 - Jan 25 with 7154 views | jeera | I'm having liver and mash with some veg and onion gravy tonight. Yes it's late but wasn't hungry earlier but now all ready to go. I love pork belly - who doesn't? I actually had a wonderful one in Brandon a couple of years back when I had to stay the night in a cheap hotel. The pork was fantastic but the mash was terrible. Wrong potatoes, over-worked, starchy mass of goo. I wolfed the pork and left the mash in the centre of the plate like a monumental tower. I considered the penis shape but felt that was going too far.

Brilliant work. My Mrs infuriates me. I rarely let her shop but when she does she buys rubbish potatoes - and a bad potato ruins a meal. For me I always try and buy charlottes. Lovely stuff.

Love charlottes whole roasted/baked. In fact I often don't bother to peel potatoes for roasting as it seems pointless. But yes, you need the right potatoes for perfect mash.

I take it you don't use that nonsense in your place. I agree - it's just pretentious rubbish isn't it. And it's not like we're short of offers in the plate dept nowadays and restricted to a basic round thing with a dipped centre. For what it's worth I like a large oval plate. You can get so much onto one.
