Golly, guess we'd have to generate more electricity to compensate then.

Better re-open all those power stations that we’ve been forced to close under the EU...oh no we ruined them

The coal ones? Not the only way of generating power and kind of defeating the point.

Sadly we have no plans for the power generation required. There’s a long lead time on this scale of project, and as we’re going backwards with energy generation it doesn’t seem remotely possible

I know little of these things, but there are more and more 'green' energy suppliers on the circuit* now, so dunno how that works if we're going backwards. *Get it?

Have you bought your last car? on 08:54 - Oct 10 with 4341 views | Basuco | Battery quality needs to make a massive leap to increase the distance between charges before that can happen, my neighbour was talking to a breakdown recovery driver recently at Clacket Lane services and he recovers a minimum of one electric car every day, often two or three, that have run out of charge. Manufacturers seem to have hit the range limit at around 130 - 150 miles on family cars, if you use a heater or air con it may be less, not nearly enough for the average motorist.

Because they are replacing existing ‘non-green’ solutions. Which don’t work on a still night.

But for this implementation - the ferrying of people around towns and cities, 150 miles is plenty. SB

First, you need the power to charge it, which we don’t have.

It's not just range, but also charging time and overall battery life (i.e. number of charge cycles before capacity drops too far). If there was a way of receiving a full charge in 5 - 10 minutes, then a 150 mile range would not matter so much. There won't be a second-hand market for early (including current) electric vehicles without expensive battery refurbishment.

That is utter bollox on all accounts There are 300 mile cars on the market from Kia and Hyundai without needing to include the jag or tesla Do You really think that is true about electric cars breaking down? It is utter rubbish But they probably see that many cars that have run out of fuel or misfueled

The degradation is now minimal and with the new battery cooling methods the charging times are coming down. It takes 20 minutes in most cases to do 80% but this will soon be for 100% in under that time

Battery technology is a fast-moving area of development. Think of the power consumption still with good battery life of a relatively lightweight modern phone compared with even a few years ago.

They're going to have to increase the number of charging points at places like supermarkets, for all those people not able to park (and thus charge) their vehicle at home. Plugging in whilst doing the shopping would be an ideal solution (unless you order it online and get delivered ).
