We do need to take a very long look a what country we want to live in, which is why Brexit being called a sideshow is wrong. It is one of many issues which demands resolution.

it is definitely a side show.
The issue I posted is something that our membership of the EU has nothing to do with, at all. We, as a nation, have the right, the opportunity, nay the responsibility to deal with issue such as child poverty. Yet, we choose not to.
We should be dealing with issues such as this, such as the NHS, such as complete collapse of trust, empathy, relationships with sections of our younger generation that lead to the sobering, sad and downright depression situation of knife crime.
But no, we choose to expend out energies and will continue to do for for years and year on Brexit.

The uncertainty of it has an economic bearing, it very much is one of many problems needing to be addressed t

We've had 40 years in the EU - yet we have not addressed issues such as this in the last 5, 10 or even 15 years.
Not any of the other issues.
Brexit is a self-made issue we are now dealing with to the detriment of wider, more important issues.
You miss the point - regardless of whether we are in the EU or not, we choose not to address these issues (as I say, we've been members of the EU for many years and have chosen to let things become the way they are).

I don't miss the point, its not a side show, its an issue that needs resolving and has caused economic uncertainty - self perpetuated issue or otherwise

All that was needed was somebody of intellectual ability and/or oratorical skills to rip farage to shreds.
Imagine him up against Bevan, Foot , Healey , or Churchill.
Healey - an intellectual boot boy - would have done the best job on farage. He'd have done bojo and moggy as well, without even breaking sweat.

Totally understand where you're coming from on this. Brexit is a vanity project sponsored by a relatively small number of very wealthy nutjobs with no interest in 'the people'. We're pandering to their fantasies, many willingly so bizarrely, when there's so many structural problems.
The Tories are getting a free ride on all of those despite people literally being forced onto the streets, schools having to go down to 4 day weeks as they've no money, serious issues with gangs and knife crime, families split apart, NHS creaking at the seams, people who've invested their whole lives here deported like common criminals.....etc. All by choice.
The only point of order is that it wasn't like this just 8 years ago. Labour had its faults last time (I've never voted for them), but we were a more stable, happier, more inclusive and more caring society under their watch. Tories just create divisions and feck over the vulnerable. They're disgusting. But LOOK OVER THERE >>> Brexit.
Agreed. But also with wkj as a lot of this has led to Brexit or is now being put at the EU and immigrants' doors. So it's pretty much the main show now.
Unravelling the whys and wherefores of Brexit from the rest of the UK's problems and solutions is key. But I think the populist, nationalist genie is out of the bottle now and not going back in until we have some sort of holy war or these people die off naturally.
Without going all Godwin for the sake of it, we now have (just like in the USA) a sizeable group of people across all classes and for varying reasons who would vote in the next Hitler to make them feel strong and powerful.

I agree totally that it's our own issue. And most importantly we're falling behind most of our European peers on these types of social metrics anyway.
But not taking responsibility and blaming others are two sides of the same coin.
