The Club World Cup plans aren't looking good for the wider game 13:17 - Jan 22 with 675 viewsSteve_M

Obviously the lure of even more millions of pounds will probably mean something liek this happens sooner or later.

Maybe it's the point when the big clubs really do fk off and leave the rest of us to enjoy football again.

They don't even want to do it, the clubs don't make much from it - it is the Governing bodies ramming it through

African nations moved to next Jan which has gone down well with likes of Liverpool who will lose Salah, Mane and Keita

Admittedly the reasons behind it are money, money - and powerbroking BUT if it eventually makes the game global instead of every player from every continent piling into Europe then its possibly no bad thing in the long term.

A side effect might even be players playing for teams that represent the country they come from..... harking back to those distant days when Town played in Europe.

They'll make many millions from the new format, as the article suggests.

Football clubs aren't run by football clubs any more. They are run by big business and their shareholders. And we all know that shareholders won't turn down money.

Er, like when Tjissen, Muhren, Wark and Brazil helped us to win a UEFA tournament ;)

I know what you mean though.

Might be a future where clubs effectively have a European (/global) squad and a younger domestic squad & manage it that way. Liverpool's situation last month unlikely to be a one-off.
