Yes, it is about right isn't it? It says something that ONLY winning a major European trophy is seen as a disappointment but we were on for all three trophies very late in the season.

You could just feel it slipping away as that tiny squad caught up with us. My Boro supporting mate says that said Bosko (though it can actually be Bozo) was not the Boro player whom he imagined would stop our challenge in its tracks, but that day he did. A season NEVER to be repeated by a club of our stature. Mainly because clubs aren't interested in the FA Cup until 6th round and will choose between UEFA and league. We are and will always be the biggest little club.* *have excluded Forest from my thinking as they are from a sizeable city

i started sixth form a year after that season finished and the head of sixth form was a villa fan. Once he knew who i supported he let me know he had a picture of Bosco Jankovic above his mantlepiece. Along with a few villa ones as well of course...

We threw it away, didn't we, losing 7 of our last 10 league games? Yes, maybe the Southampton defeat didn't count as the game was up by then & yes, injuries & fatigue after chasing 3 trophies (4 if you count our League Cup run, which also came to a disappointing end) took its toll. Losing at home to Arsenal was a particularly bitter pill 4 days after seemingly getting back on track by winning at Villa, and then going down to the Budgies 2 days later.

Yes those two league games at easter losing to Arsenal and up the road were what really damaged us because as you say winning at Villa Park just before the Arsenal game had put us right back in it. It would be nice to go back to the morning of 11th April 1981 because that was the last point that we were still on for three trophies.

The back to back losses to Arsenal and Norwich killed us. We had too many of our top players missing or not fully fit for those two games. However had we beaten Boro we would have beaten Southampton, I have no doubts about it. Also, had we reached the FA Cup final we'd have played Spurs off the park. Spurs didn't show up for the first game against City and were very lucky to get a replay.

Personally, I think we would have done it. I am gutted that we never won the league under Sir Bob.
