Is it national number? If it is, it is what it is. That's how this thing works, through local spreading. We had a hotspot in London at the start and now there are smaller hotspots in the NW and N Wales. If it's a national number then it's relevant, as long as it's being compared to a previous national number. But yes, you need the regional detail to understand why it's going up/down. |  |

It is a national number, but apparently Only 5,000 active cases in Germany and this outbreak added 1,000 in 3 days. Nearly 650 from one factory of 1000 people

I think you can relax on this one - the R number is utterly meaningless.
If you look for covid you will find it - if you actually have an effective track and trace you will find more.
Germany are doing both - so when they find it the R rate will go up - in local flare ups they expect to be able to control
In this country where we dont look for it and dont have a credible track and trace the R number will be low.... but 1000 people giving to 1000 more will have an R number of 1 - and 2 people giving it 4 people will have an R number of 2. Therein lies the nonsense of the media fixation with R numbers spoon fed to them by dishonest politicians. |  |
