Ditched the trip to Spain (Picos) for obv reasons and Brittany Ferries are refusing to refund a penny of the £400 I paid in early Feb for the return trip from Bilbao.
Booking was non refundable when made - anyone understand in the ins and outs? They state that as they are still sailing - my loss basically.
Had the same with domestic flights in another country. The catch is their border is closed to all international tourists, so I cannot get in to use the internal flights but the airline will not see that. Just said well the flights are running so you cannot have a refund.

Mine could have been worse as the hotels I booked (8 nights x 3 double rooms) were all refundable.
Really sorry to hear you weren't able to get your Asturias trip. It's the region with one of the lowest infection rates in Spain but that's of no help, I know. What really gets me about this is why companies just can't do the right thing and issue a refund, even a partial refund. I have a couple of tourist apartments in the Pyrenees and this Summer has been mad with cancellations and bookings, overall it's evened out, probably slightly up on last year. On a completely different level from the ferry companies but with cancellations you just need to take the hit, rely on karma and hope punters remember when things get better.

They are telling me to claim on my insurance.
Booked the tickets Feb 10th. Took an annual insurance policy on Feb 20th. Not sure if that would be covered?

Only 1 way to find out I guess...
If you paid by debit or credit card, I know technically you are out of time as more than six months have passed, you could try talking to the card company to get a section 75 underway. Worked for me when a cruise planned to take place in March did not go ahead.

Looks like I will rebook for next year. They have agreed to waive the amendment fees. Insurance looks like I am covered (from my reading of the insurance - but has £150 excess that I'd obviously lose)

What's the weather like Northern Spain and/or Pyrenees in May? Don't want to be motorbiking if it's too hot. Longer I leave it to rebook the best chance the need to quarantine is over...

Worth making a claim ....nothing to lose, they can only say no.
They’ll say no as you took the insurance out after the booking was made.
Also, the ferry company are technically correct if it is really still sailing. Most travel companies have refunded as they realise they need us post-pandemic, so have issued vouchers or refunds.
You could try and push for a 12 month voucher

They are letting me rebook for next year. :-)
I reckon my insurance is valid as it states they won't pay for anything I was aware of at the time I took it out. Given I took the insurance on Feb 20 (before this was all headline news) I think I'd be covered. That said - it doesn't matter now.

Common sense from them finally!

The two months of May and September are probably the best to get decent weather without the serious heat. The advantage of May is there's still snow up on the peaks but warm further down, so adds to the ambience. It actually snowed last Saturday night in the Pyrenees above 2400m but was soon gone mid-morning. Obviously no guarantees but May should be a good shout.

It is the risk factor on the date insurance that is taken out that might have been a get out for the insurer but on 20th Feb doubt many really knew what was coming.. There is no general requirement to take out insurance at the time of booking.
