Help with degree - sports/exercise 11:07 - Sep 1 with 672 views | StudentBlue123 | Hello all, I'm a Masters student studying journalism at the UEA and I'm currently finishing off a piece about how the Covid-19 lockdown has affected sport/exercise from the biggest events down to personal experiences. I would be very grateful if anyone on here would be willing to share their experiences on how they've been getting on with regards to the above topic during the last few months, be it from participation (maybe you were going to run the marathon, you've had to stop your team sport, you've had to adapt to working out from home rather than at the gym, maybe it's had a negative effect on you, maybe you've used the situation to improve your physical/mental health through exercise etc.) or simply as a spectator (perhaps you were looking forward to jetting off around Europe for the Euros, maybe watching live sport is a big part of your free time and it's left a hole, equally any opinions on spectators being admitted back to Portman Road would be welcome if you have an ST/are planning to return if possible/aren't planning to return for safety reasons). Again, I'd really appreciate any contribution. The piece will be published online (eventually) so am happy to take anonymous submissions as posts under this OP if you want to contribute but didn't feel comfortable putting your name to it. Alternatively, I'm very happy for anyone to PM on here to discuss the matter. I do have another account on here but created this one to separate the usual discussions from this (I'll answer favourite cheese questions on a quid pro quo basis). Thanks in advance for any and all help, Henry
Help with degree - sports/exercise on 11:16 - Sep 1 with 642 views | SaleAway | HI There's a few different impacts for me. When lockdown first hit - and I started working from home, I realised that my old routine of gym, squash and tennis was going to disappear, so I started running again. I've made the afternoon run the bookend to my working day - such that as I finish work for the day, I head out for a run, and when I come back, I'm finished. I've found this really good for both mental and physical wellbeing. A combination of lots of running, and eating a bit more healthily, means I've lost 2.5 stone since February. In terms of getting back to normal - tennis has now resumed as before, but I still can't play squash - as an indoor close contact sport, its obviously one of the hardest to re-start, so not sure when that will happen at the moment. There is a move towards having "squash bubbles" such that 6 people can form a group that can play, but in Manchester, we're still in lockdown, so its not currently allowed. I've missed a couple of Racketlon tournaments that I was planning on playing in, and also, the banning of spectators from cricket meant that I missed out on the Eng v Pakistan test at Old Trafford - having said that - being able to watch the behind closed doors cricket, has been great - and I'm also enjoying the tennis as it comes back. Still not sure about the football - the intensity seemed to be missing from the premiership games I did miss, but much of that might have been because the title was already decided. Hope some of that helps - if you want any more info or thoughts, feel free to PM me.

Help with degree - sports/exercise on 11:28 - Sep 1 with 623 views | ITFC_Forever | Hi mate, From my point of view, it meant I actually got fitter.... my usual exercise is a 5k run 2-3 times a week, which means over the course of a month, due to various other commitments, if I run 10 times in the month, I've done well. But due to COVID, all those other commitments were cancelled, so I had more time to run, and was running every 2 days, so for four months in a row, I managed 15 in a month, so a 50% increase. Now our lives are opening back up again, I can see that starting to decrease again....

Should also add, from a spectating point of view, as a ST holder, I've certainly missed going to games. I watched quite a few of the Prem / Champ games when they re-started, but it wasn't the same without the crowds in the stadiums.

| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Help with degree - sports/exercise on 12:54 - Sep 1 with 552 views | NewcyBlue | Hi Henry. I went up to 97kgs. I was not healthy. My routine went out the window. I eventually went back to sea where I have lost 5.5kgs whilst putting on some muscle again. I am getting leaner and lifting heavier again. The change in my body composition is noticeable, due to my working hours there are some crew I won’t see for a couple of weeks and they do notice a difference. We have just got a new treadmill on board. I will be able to do some cardio too. I didn’t use lockdown very well. It was all or nothing. Most of the time it was nothing. I didn’t have a goal to work towards. I swam a few times every week before lockdown, walking down to the pool and walking back. I really enjoyed that. I miss it when I am away. I’ve read a few books and got my mindset right again. Being on board really helps me focus, although I have very little control over my nutrition.
