Madrid court rejects C19 lockdown 12:49 - Oct 8 with 781 viewsStokieBlue

The Madrid court has rejected the lockdown leaving the police with no powers to enforce any of the measures in any way.

If this is going to be the route that people are going to take then I can't see anything other than a winter which is far worse than what we had in the spring.

Horrendous timing as well with a long weekend in Spain and a national day of celebration on Monday which is likely to see people leave Madrid and head to other parts of Spain spreading the virus from the most heavily infected part of Spain to other places.

There was a massive exodus last weekend from Madrid to second homes, these are mainly to the beaches of Valencia and north to San Sebastian as well as south to Murcia.

It's a real power struggle here between autonomous regions, the popular right and the central govt. No way it's going to end well.

Sounds like the Spanish authorities are conspiring to be almost as useless as our own.

I was listening to a podcast the other day that postulated that both the science community and the corporations (with regards to research and development) have actually stepped up during the C19 crisis and that virtually all of the problems have been the result of political decisions.

A significant portion of the Tory party want to see something similar happen here. Interestingly the most vocal are members of the ERG

Is that much of a surprise though? The scientific community is less burdened by the need to strike a balance. The scientifically best option is to shut everything forever and stop people doing anything until a vaccine comes along but politics has to take into account the devastation it would wreak on the economy, people’s mental health, people’s physical health from all the other more serious health conditions that would be pushed to the side, jobs, businesses and infrastructure all collapsing.

There are no decisions that can be taken that positively affect all sides.

I think Catalunya would support stricter restrictions if they were imposed by the the regional govt, they'll accept lockdown from the national govt but grumble.

Madrid is run by the popular party so will object to restrictions from the govt socialist party.

Other regions will be similar but then as no region is homogeneous you have groups all pushing from different directions. It started with sniping from the sidelines and is now pure political posturing and getting out of control.
