Help please... Support bubble 20:55 - Oct 31 with 1498 views | FrimleyBlue | Can someone help me understand what household mixing is allowed. We won't venture much anyway at the moment but we have my wife's mum and dad who we see... Are we still able to go in their house as their support bubble or is it one of us allowed in only?

I thought childcare reasons are also permitted, or did I make up hearing that?

I don't believe childcare is a reason but if parents are divorced/separated then they are allowed to form an extra bubble. Might be wrong on the first bit - second bit is definitely right. SB

I’m absolutely certain that childcare reasons was mentioned either by the BBC in the run up or during the presser. But can’t now see it on the BBC summary so may have been either incorrect speculation or Boris being as muddled as usual. No doubt whatever the answer is it’ll change by Thursday anyway!

It doesn't help the opening poster either way given their situation. Also not sure I'd want to send kids who are at school mixing all the time to grandparents house for childcare! SB

No of course not - I was just replying to the general point re support bubble reasons Not all children are of school age and not all grandparents are particularly old. There will be countless people up and down the country with young children that will need support of relatives/friends to care for their children, so that they’re able to continue to work

That's absolutely true yes. I was referring to school age kids or those at nursery - should have been clearer. SB | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Do you think there is a correlation between the rise in cases and the re-opening of schools? It certainly looks like it, and would make perfect sense.

I don't think you can look at "school" as a single entity. I've not seen any studies saying that primary age kids are much of a vector but that doesn't mean they aren't. However I think that secondary school kids are much more likely to be vectors of C19 simply because they have the lung capacity and body size to generate a lot more of the virus which can then be spread. In France, all kids over 6 now have to wear masks at school. I think that should probably be the case for secondary school kids but once again I haven't seen any specific studies. So to answer your question: Yes I think there is a correlation but I don't think it's from all schools or children. SB

Childcare is definitely allowed. My parents will still provide for my 3 year old, but they aren’t allowed in our house to pick her up

Not even to do with what you do for a job. The difference between this lockdown and March is the exemption for childcare and grandparents (or any other relative)

Childcare is allowed. So is caring for vulnerable people. All on UK Gov site.
