Booing antiracism is not a respectable position on 20:10 - Dec 6 with 889 views | MattinLondon | It’s a perfectly respectable position for racists. As well as those who hang around with racists...did someone mention a Tory MP?
Booing antiracism is not a respectable position on 20:29 - Dec 6 with 851 views | JDB23 | I wonder how all these "all lives matter" gammon's would react if people started booing during the minutes silence for remembrance day, because let's face it, you don't get much more political than people losing their lives due to a foreign invasion ordered by the government. I suspect they would have a very different tone about politics in football then.

What are you on about? Remembrance Day is a for all servicemen and women of all colours and creeds! Two World wars and other wars hardly counts as a ‘foreign’ invasion.

When the poppy's significance was considered to be in remembrance of WW1 and WW2 the concept was easier to conceive. Since we came to accept the poppy to stand for all casualties in all conflicts it became contentious. It's difficult for some people now because there is some conflict of interest. How can you wear a poppy and be in opposition of some of the moves the UK has made abroad? In some cases those moves will be of a direct nature, given someone's background and/or family ties. At the same time that can be political as well as personal and has no reflection on the poor souls who have lost their lives. I'm not trying to be clever, I don't know sh1t and I still buy - as I always have - a poppy every year without fail.

For sure, but it's still political, which is the "argument" of these people for not wanting BLM in football. Of course it's not got anything to do with politics and everything to do with them being racists.

Although, it's become more 'political' in recent times as certain political parties and figures have made gains on being openly racist and courting the racist vote. If you were the sort of person who voted for someone on the strength of their racist dogwhistling you might feel a little threatened by a movement actively saying 'give over with this bullsh1t'.

Booing antiracism is not a respectable position on 07:16 - Dec 7 with 610 views | Darth_Koont | Unfortunately, being against anti-racists and the minorities they defend has been a normalised political stance for a few years now. It’s not even right-wing but pretty much the bedrock of the modern UK centre. Actually addressing structural racism and inequality would demand the sorts of policies that too many in the UK think is Communism rather than just social democracy. The really nasty downside of this is that it gives the straight-up racists, homophobes, transphobes, misogynists etc. the cover to enter the debate.
