I'm going with the speculation that if it falls through, then he's gone some way to cover himself.
And if it goes through, then so what, it won't matter and he'll be outta here anyway.

If the deal is not yet done, then i wouldn't accuse Evans of lying, but the media are saying the deal is done, and it is awaiting EFL ratification, so i make it a straight lie, or the media have it wrong.

Is it possible that the deal could be with the EFL but the finer details of it are still being ironed out? So, technically, Evans has not yet received an offer he is willing to accept but everyone knows it is to do with his percentage stake in the club and a few hundred thousand pounds and that a deal will be done.
Pure speculation but just wondering how all the pieces could fit together without someone deliberately misleading anyone. |  |

It's not lying; it's all in the phrasing: "nothing new" in respect of this party's interest etc. Presumably they are then one of the groups that he refers to when he says that some parties have returned to talk again. |  |

Technically both could be correct. It could be a buyer has shown interest and have said the price is acceptable and Evan's told them to go and get FL 'fit and proper' approval first before any formal offer and they failed the approval or it's still proceeding. That's what happened with Wigan last time a verbal agreement on price but the buyers failed the FL test. |  | | |
