Goals 10, 11 and 14. Remember them well.

Beattie also scored a cracker in the win over WBA - that match was a goal of the month competition in its own right.

Poll: Who do you blame for our failure to progress?

Wasn't that played on a Friday night or have I got that wrong.

No Saturday afternoon, absolutely pouring with rain.

I'm sure we gave someone else a 7-0 thrashing around that time. Sheffield Utd? .

I'm guessing you might mean this one v Southampton a few years earlier

Was in the North Stand and i thought Beatties shot was going to break the net. TWTD.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

That's the one thanks. I've had too many smacks to the head I think.

It's one of my favourite goals to watch. There's something purely instinctive in both the shot and celebration. From the boot of someone less gifted it would have surely cleared the stand, but instead its in the net before the goalkeeper has even worked out he was going to shoot.

It looked at the time like the goalkeeper luckily got out of the way of it!

Trevor Whymark: such a good player. He had a reputation at the time as a great header of the ball, but his all round game was great too.

I enjoyed seeing all the goals in that clip. Brian Moore attended my father and brother in law’s church in Farnborough, Kent. He was a lovely man apparently and just loved talking about football. Great commentator too. Possibly the best of his time (excluding the god that is Gerry Harrison, of course!).

I remember that header from Mariner very vividly. Oh how I miss the game I fell in love with all those years ago.

Me too on both counts. I really enjoyed watching Burley’s team too, despite being at times a bit soft and repeated playoff failures.

I miss the chant of ‘1-0 to the football team’. We’ve not been able to say that for many years now. 1-0 to the hoofball, shambles or twitter team doesn’t quite have the same ring about it.

Me too. I remember WBA keeper (John Osborne?) inspecting the net to see if there was a hole in it.
