The only real concerns people like that should have is wondering where their humanity has disappeared to.

We are governed by a bunch of nasty buttholes but sadly much of the country is very much in their image.

Depressing as feck innit. We see a bit of it on here, but thankfully this place is mostly full of people who care. I don’t think we’re representative of the country as a whole though. The mainstreaming of xenophobia in policy by this vote leave government, aided by tossers like Farage and the right wing press, has unleashed a bit of a beast. Hopefully it can be caged again, but not until we have leaders who set a better example. The RNLI are truly heroic. I had a few hours in the lifeboat centre at Moelfra on Anglesey this week. Some of the rescues from there over the years have been pretty incredible, including I think the largest wreck tragedy in UK (Welsh?) waters when the Royal Charter went down in 1859 only 50 m from shore with the loss of about 440 lives (about 40 rescued). Anyone who abuses the RNLI for selflessly doing their job is an a-hole of the highest order. [Post edited 28 Jul 2021 18:58]

I was in Fowey in Cornwall many years ago when the landlord of a pub I was drinking in was one of the lifeboatmen. He got a call and let us know we could see the boat going out by walking the short distance to the jetty outside. But I decided to quickly finish my pint before taking a shufty, boat was long gone by the time I drifted out there. Very dedicated people, the RNLI.
