Just noticed that over the weekend, Arsenal played Spurs, Manchester United played Everton, and Nodge went up to Newcastle. All for friendlies. Not testimonials or tournaments, just run of the mill friendlies.

Is this a new thing? Normally you don't play a team from the same division in a pre season friendly?

I assume it's because the games were scheduled at a time when overseas travel was likely to be difficult because of covid.

With EFL clubs and Scotland already playing proper matches and the risk/cost of playing a foreign team at the moment I guess this was the only solution.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs held the Mind Series with proceeds being split between the charity Mind and the clubs' foundations. Arsenal usually hold the Emirates Cup and one of the others would probably be invited to the Audi Cup in normal times but this makes more sense at the mo and at least gives something back too

They usually have foreign teams plus they always go away on tours etc but due to that thing call COVID they’ve had to scale back their pre-season plans.
