I was just wondering if anyone had seen any specific info on the impacts of mass football attendance on the spread of covid?
We're a fair way into the season now, and overall numbers for covid have stayed fairly steady, but I wasn't sure if this was hiding other trends.
I'm desperately hoping that we're seeing that with football, and a number of music festivals over the summer, we can start to keep some semblance of normal life from here onwards.

Have not seen anything specific on football, but I do know that a lot of the cases are in young children. As vaccines programme double jabs 16+ and will start to single jab 12+ soon, the caseload is increasingly made up of the unvaccinated. |  | | |

Between the football and the couple of days of Test cricket it is all far more exposed than anything in the prior 18 months and yet totally normal whilst I’m actually there.
Not seen anything on it but it does seem to have had less impact that the Euros but we’re in a different place in terms of vaccinations and cases from June. Once it’s too cold to sit outside the pub and trains get replaced by buses as the Autumn goes on that may change. |  |

Test events such as the Euro finals and Latitude were associated with increased spread and yet the results appear to have been quietly ignored almost as if they weren't really tests!
Junior's school is also riddled with cases but luckily siblings can continue to attend now....all very confusing isn't it. |  |

Wythenshawe hospital referred to the "Euro variant" as there was a huge spike in admissions related to groups watching in pubs and grounds, slightly scary is that the UK is currently running at just over 1000 covid death's a week and rising. Football, schools or whatever the reason, we will not out of the pandemic any time soon. |  | | |

I understood outdoor events to be quite low risk but haven't got a source to hand.
I'm more interested in being able to attend live music venues which are usually indoors.
Also, whilst I am vaxxed, I really am not keen on any 'vaccine passport' arrangements. A step too far IMO and I'm still hopeful this was always just a threat in order to encourage take up. |  |

Interestingly live music in venues is my big question mark too. Will be trying my first events in a couple of weeks so will see how that goes.

My understanding of the case numbers at latitude is that they weren't hugely increased from the population in general, and were much more prevalent in younger attendees who were perhaps less cautious with their behaviour around the festival.
The other festival I went too, green man, had much lower cases linked to the event, but also has a different age demographic attending with very few older teens there.
No judgement at all from me on young people here, just an observation on the different outcomes.
School is a big challenge to say the least. Mrs Dub is not really enjoying being back in school with zero covid measures in place. | |

With the exception of the final itself, transmission rates at the Euro matches was relatively low. Where there was significant transmission was at events where fans congregated to watch the match on TV/big screens. | | | |

i hope mick mills is double jabbed. fri night i went to see never lost at home. mick was the player they brought on at the end ,to great applause. after the show as we made our way out, people were queuing ,to have their pic took with him. arms round his back and right up close to him.

I did my first gig the other Sunday at the Regent and the checks were kind of on a par with going to PR - Nick Cave was immense btw - and the crowd was obviuosly older. I swerved a club night in Leeds as I felt a bit unsure about going but I hope that things don't spike too wildly as I've got a shed load of gigs coming up. |  | | |

No figures, but I have been all over the country this summer at sports, gigs, festivals, restaurants etc. and my anecdotal evidence is that there not being a huge spike in cases can only be down to the vaccines because vast swathes of the country are now living life like they were pre-pandemic.
This feels like a huge positive (not like it’s been a scorching summer) and hopefully we can avoid lockdowns this winter if the booster jabs can give us extra protection. |  | | |
