It was his great pal Dennis Lille who had the aluminium bat. Marsh was a really good cricketer. One of the first, if not the first, wicketkeeper batsman. He played hard and fair. Rod Marsh did a lot for cricket in Australia and here in the early 2000s. He was a great character too and to say he enjoyed a beer was an understatement.

Good point. In the attached, none of your four are mentioned. Knott, a peer of Marsh, had a better test batting average.

All these gentlemen were great players. I never saw Marsh play, but I did get to see Knott and the later greats in the Cricket Life article.

Marsh initially played for Western Australia as a specialist batsman & was first picked for Australia largely because of his batting & was quickly nicknamed "Iron gloves" after some sloppy work behind the stumps. However, he worked on his keeping & improved dramatically, rather like Matt Prior.
