Honestly, you city folk. As country bumpkin Badger has pointed out it is Beltane.

I always thought it was far too jaunty a tune for such a TERRIFYING character.

Blimey. I didn't find it scary at the time, now it's bloody terrifying! Lost naivety I suppose.

Some of you may be too young to remember, or have grown elderly with fading memories, and haven't recalled that on this day in 1997 many of us were dancing in the streets with joy at the end of 18 years of Tory rule -

Let's hope we can achieve the same again soon, if not this year

The world seems a grim place at the moment with so many populist (I hate that word, but everybody knows what I mean) leaders and selfish, short-sighted voters empowering the bastards.

I am a little hopeful that in this old established democracy the build up of filth in Parliament, the failing economy, and the ever more evident effects of environmental destruction caused by unfettered greed and the unconstrained free market phallusy (misspelling intended), might at some point soon create a fundamental backlash and a great reset to an environmentally and socially responsible, co-operative system with a backbone of responsibly run and staffed public infrastructure.

I'm not holding my breath, but perhaps there's room for a little hope.

We can but hope (and I'm usually top of the optimism tree), but I'm afraid I reached the point of complete cynicism when engaged in a recent debate on another platform which wasn't initially about party politics, but soon turned into that.

Became obvious that party politics in the UK is utterly & completely tribal - people vote Tory, no matter how shockingly tories behave, because their parents did, and/or because they have a nice house (maybe as a result of Thatcher enabling them/their parents to buy their Council house) and simply will not change, as Labour is "terrible", "not to be trusted", will "wreck the economy" etc etc no matter who the Labour leader is.

Thing is that the longer the tories are in power, the more chances they have to rig the system in their favour as is happening now - gerrymandering, attempting to change the method by which people are able to vote, and -

Much as Brutus was described as an honourable man by Mark Antony.

In other words, with very heavy sarcasm.

Nah, she was deadly serious - after the first howls of laughter, I had to switch off, thought I might have an apopleptic fit if I'd carried on listening.

Your little ditty reminded me of how she obviously sees him & tory Britain, plus her apparent view that the sun shines out of his rectum.

It's something that I bizarrely remember from Sunday School as a child.

It continues

I know I shall be happy
While in this world I stay
For I shall follow Jesus
All the way.

Unfortunately this is going to be rattling round my head for about a week.

I had a similar terrible earworm all last week of the national anthem - which I think I've now just resuscitated :(

I saw a lilac bush this morning since when I can't get this song out of my mind:

Go down to Kew in lilac time....
It isn't far from London.

It is quite possible that I am now the only person in the world who remembers this song!

Excellent, many thanks, particularly appreciate the song-guide!

Yes, missed it this morning but have had it in mind to do around 5am for a while now, so maybe tomorrow.

What really made my day today was hearing our first local cuckoo of the spring this afty - a few days late (usually arrives c. 23rd April) but as always very welcome - they seem to be so much rarer than they used to be in these parts.

Didn't someone (you?) post a link to a cuckoo tracking site a few years back?
