However, this is not the normal League squad. We don't have Morsy on the pitch to grab a goal like the one on Saturday. Nor Ladapo, or notional main man. Even Harness and Burns have only just come on (and probably were not supposed to be used).

Think that’s fair, and not judging on 90 minutes tonight but it does beg the question as to our depth. I don’t really buy this ‘embarrassment of riches’ we supposedly have in the final 3rd to be honest. Harness & Chaplin are very dangerous at this level, and I’m hoping Ladapo can get going and get decent numbers. Beyond that, I’m not convinced John-Jules has demonstrated a huge amount yet, yes he was busy against Bolton but he let himself down slightly on the ball. I don’t really get why he’s been bigged up so much. Jackson has never been prolific at this level or any level throughout his career. Not to knock them, willing runners, hard workers I’m sure and they might hit a purple patch, but there’s no precedent of it from them. I just don’t see this embarrassment of riches I’m told about, I’m not sure how many of the top 10 L1 sides TJJ and KJ walk into, if any. I think we’re short there given we’ve lost Bonne, Celina, Norwood, Pigott. None of which I’ll lose sleep over but it’s the area that concerns me. Whether it be Hirst or someone else, we need to invest there.

It does illustrate though that as good as say, Celina, is. Creativity really isn't the issue with us. I'm hopeful that Ladapo et al are enough though.

I said in a earlier post even though we may retrieve this game lose Ladapo and we are down the river with out a paddle. A quality striker is really important Jackson has not scored goals regularly for us since he got here forget his played out of position his a impact substitute nothing more | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Tonight is a second XI for sure but that is a ridiculous second string for L1.

Still seems a recurring issue throughout the squad with this system. Pretty, lots of possession but no end product. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully behind McKenna but I do think he needs to change it up sometimes against different opposition.

Having said what I did, still wouldn't be surprised to see a further signing up top. For extra depth, given we play a sort of front three. We had chances tonight - more than enough to have won the game - but lacked the composure to get shots on target and avoid the 'keeper. Particularly from Humphreys, tho he is still young and raw.

Is it really though? I see people saying it’s ridiculous, but how many of that side are proven at our level, proven good or otherwise. Hladky isn’t, in fact he looked incredibly shaky this time last year and was promptly binned off. Ndaba, Humphries, John-Jules, Jackson, Leigh. They’re either unproven or proven to be OK L1 footballers. Aluko is quality, Harper I’m not yet sure about, by all accounts he was poor for a relegated Crewe on loan. Edwards too, both young and could kick on but equally we don’t really know do we? Vincent-Young of a few years ago certainly, but we’ve not seen it in so long. I’m not suggesting we should have a second string that’s capable of dominating L1, it’s doesn’t happen and there will always be a step down in quality from a Morsy to a Harper. But I’ve heard a lot about our ridiculous depth and embarrassment of riches, I’m yet to actually see it TBH. In particular in the forward area I think we’re light. Ladapo, Jackson, John-Jules are our front men options. I would say that’s weaker Bolton, Peterborough, Sheff Wed, Derby have at their disposal.

And this is why I don't buy the.. We have X amount of shots but don't score goals. Its not just the shots you have, it's the quality of the chances you create. 90 minutes of tippy tappy but if you're not creating good quality chances, it's no wonder goals aren't scored.

We have several very similar players in the final third. Jackson, JJ, Edwards, Harness all bring explosive pace and power but we lack a lock picker i.e a Celina. Controversial opinion here too, Aluko's numbers just aren't good enough. He's a nice footballer to watch but he should be giving more in terms of end product with the quality he has. I keep seeing people say we need a goalscorer (and we do need another striker) as if every chance is going to fall to that man. Everyone just needs to be more clinical when they get an opportunity - if Humphreys scored last night and Harper didn't have a brain fart, do we win? Very likely. It's fine margins and we need to start consistently getting on the right side of them.

Aluko is quality. Is he really though? Quality for an attacking player is scoring goals and getting assists. He doesn't do either, not even against Colchester at home. Just don't get all the love from the fans for him. Yes, he's good to watch, but he doesn't win us any games. If we don't get another striker soon it has to be Chaplin and Harness starting because they are both a threat of goals and assists. And Ladapo too. None of the midfield or attacking players that played last night should be starting league games in the future. They had an opportunity to impress and didn't. All proved they are subs at best without exception.
