Get larger crowds in early league cup rounds than they do for league games. A weirdly big 5,500 crowd to watch Brentford reserves

It seems almost impossible to believe they were in the championship a few years back. Incredible over achievement as they’re basically a non-league club with a horrible stadium

Yeah they really are. No history of note. Sh1t flat pack, soulless, characterless, largely 2/3 empty, silent stadium on the side of the A12. Squad of past it semi retirees, dreadful owner, forced one sided rivalry with us. Scraping around towards the bottom of the 4th tier, no real prospects. Tiny fan base.

They’re so dull.

They used to have a bit of character about them when they played at Layer Rd, now they’re just nothing.

Unsurprisingly, quite a few clubs got more last night than they usually do in the league - including Bolton. Crawley, Grimsby, Oxford, Fleetwood (presumably, though they're being a bit coy about it) and one or two others, (The Abbey looks absolutely packed in the Youtube highlights.)

I thought the most impressive crowd was Wolves' 22,000 at home to Preston. I guess Wolves (like Brentford) see this as one they can win.

It’s not too long ago that all cup games got bigger crowds than league games.

Even at a club like Ipswich who demean themselves and football every year in the cups, the record crowd is for a cup game - effectively in the second round.

One day soon the gurning Americans will notice that and tap into another readily available ‘income stream’
