Is that dealing with timewasting by adding time on, does not actually properly adddress the problem.

They still benefit from the break, the rest, the disruption, the destruction of momentum and so on.

Easy to see from the outset how it would go. He didn't have a handle on the game from the start.

Hard to stop that in some respects. Only thing you can do is issue more yellows early doors, but this is a big issue in the game. Can you prove someone isn’t injured or hasn’t got cramp? A lot of my American friends always call out how football or “soccer” is a very imperfectly timed game and teams can cheat their way to the final whistle. At some level they have a point!

One thing you do, is not stop the game for non head injuries, unless you are very clear that something is serious.

I agree. Also issue a few yellows early at the first sniff of it. But when there is a break in play and people go down in the last 20, it gets ridiculous.

He was weak with it all game, pointing at your watch then turning around jogging up the pitch letting them take another 30 seconds over a goal kick just encourages them more.

Needed to set a precedent early doors

It would be good to see a referee book a player for time wasting and, when they then continue to do it have the guts to give them a second yellow card for it (even if they are a goal keeper). It seems they spend far too long warning the player (wasting even more time) before actually booking them and, once booked, it is almost a licence to carry on as they won't get a second one so easily.

Has there ever been a ref give a free kick for the keeper holding the ball too long? They can get away with it for 20 seconds instead of 6.

They certainly get plenty of leeway and warnings. I have never seen a free kick for one.

It’s pathetic that a team who finished in the championship play offs two years ago resorted to this.

Shame on them.

I agree with you, but an individual ref can do nothing about this. This is a systemic problem with the game that needs to be addressed from much higher up than any individual ref.

That said, he was absolutely terrible and I'm not defending him.

Poll: Hurst or Ross, discounting any other candidates?
