My wife bought expensive flights back to Colombia twice in basis her father was dying... He lasted another five years from first event.

I should have added he also managed to get another visit to UK in, between second event and actually shuffling off this mortal coil.
In that trip he got to see Edinburgh and the Famous Grouse Distillery, happy memories.
