Bramford Rd and Bramford Lane when they were handy short cuts/rat runs, ideal for in/out to Portman Rd from A14.

Used them both yesterday, afternoon for summat, wtf?

Still use it on match days coming from A14 especially now crowds are well up, saves us about 20 minutes rather than hit that bloody Norwich Rd queue..

But anything around 2pm, forget it, gridlock..

Could get even worse - I did hear a few months ago that there were plans to close off Bramford Lane at the bridge to everyone except cyclists, so traffic heading in would either have to go up Cromer Road or down Eustace Road, both even less suited to heavier traffic than Bramford Lane itself.

The problem is, as ever, the general road layout on that side of the town. On the other, you've got Woodbridge, Foxhall, Felixstowe, Nacton Roads. Coming in on Nacton Road, you've got the option of diverting onto Landseer Road if you want. On the west side Bramford Road is the only relatively main road between Norwich and London Roads. A14 traffic also comes off at Sproughton Road, but that then feeds into Bramford Road again. Plus it doesn't help there's the double mini roundabout and Chevallier Street is nearly always slow moving.

I understand there were tentative plans years ago - possibly when the bypass was built, to have a road built from the A14 junction with Bury Road to link in with Lovetofts Drive, then extend that across the Bramford Lane Recreation Ground, follow the line of where Europa Way is now, through Boss Hall, then along the side of the river to come out on Yarmouth Road. But because this would involve the loss of the Recreation Ground as well as those houses right at the far end of Henniker and Bramford Roads, it didn't happen. Would have made things quite a bit easier if it had.

Talking of bad traffic and Ipswich, I am driving tomorrow. Is it a nightmare getting out (am parked at the ground, Constantine Road exit)?

If you've got a space in the ground - you'll be as good as possible. The main delays are usually getting out of car parks (Took me an hour at the evening game to exit the station car park)

Will be busy for sure (no trains) but can't see a better plan, aside from parking 2 miles away and cycling last 2 miles in/out.

Not much you can do, other than park near the exit I guess.
