Massive, humongous, season defining.. wing backs the key… McKenna view 19:33 - Oct 1 with 1113 viewsunstableblue

The players ran towards adversity today coming back from 2 penalties, especially with the disappointing lull in support after Pompey’s first goal… players stood up today, some brilliant closing and energy, some crisp passing

Someone said in the week how the hell are we getting 28k + in league one, that’s because we are exciting and attacking and there is energy and a manager we can believe in

McKennas post match thoughts were so compelling and insightful. Discussing the values, behaviours that the team is showing, talking about how Edwards attitude in training has meant he earnt his subs introduction

But my word after Pompey scored I thought we were going to be the Ipswich of the last decade, failing against a rival, failing to send a big crowd him happy and wanting more

Pompey were a poor footballing side compared to us, and we bossed the first half. But they did have presence and a brilliant young striker.

If we’d play with the energy, intent and craft we showed today we’d have walked over Sheff Weds and Plymouth.

Funnily enough McKenna bemoaned the error for the first penalty; and I was disappointed at Wolf initially, but it was a difficult bounce and the pace of their player ballistic. Morsy was just unlucky do their second in a weird one.

Edmundson was awesome today, Morsy much more involved, Evans involved throughout.

Lots of 8/10 performers as needed.

Some people were questioning Harness in the week; he showed why he improves us today. He is a finisher, he is dangerous. I actually think Chaplin has had better days.

But the difference for me was the wing backs. To have Burns back on form and Davis having his best game yet for us - well that makes us a nightmare to play against.

Davis was MOTM and all whilst being fouled relentlessly. I was freaking when he got the knee injury, hope he’s OK for Tuesday.

A brilliant result that we all needed; and as our brilliant leader states it’s meaningless if we don’t go and win Tuesday - and with Plymouth, Sheff Weds, Peterborough and Derby winning.. this result needs to be a springboard to a really dominant set of results. There is no room for faltering.

So happy and proud of my club. I feel McKenna is invested in the fans, club and area.

The dark days of Evans are gone.

I think you mean ran towards adversity, unless a popular dance act were in the lower north stand.

Daft slogan for a football club. If adversity is the destination, we ran the other way today. It’s the sort of slogan that would have suited Hurst, Lambert, or a fire brigade. It doesn’t translate at all imo.

PS. Yes, that was huge today.

Davis contribution for the second goal was outstanding but Edmondson made it possible by bringing the ball out.

I thought Ladapo and Edwards changed the momentum, Ladapo occupied defenders affording more space for others to operate, Edwards was positive in everything he done

Very satisfying win

I think it does translate provided you do not get too literal. It about having a mindset that we can overcome the challenges that will test us.

Great result today, and having now played the rest of the top 6 and also seeing Peterborough play last week, we have nothing to fear bar injuries.

We did more than enough to beat Bolton, should have had a third goal versus Barnsley and should have beaten Sheff W as their equaliser was clearly offside. I thought Plymouth were the best team we have played this season but will they have sufficient strength in depth, they ran out of steam last season.

It looks like the current top 8 will occupy the top six places at the end of the season, it already looks like a league within a league.

Not sure who I want to win Plymouth v Sheff W midweek.I am leaning toward a Plymouth win, to (hopefully) allow us to put a little more distance between us and third..

I so agree on Edmundson and Ladapo

Edmundson was a Rolls Royce defender today but that run to feed Davis and the general quality of his passing was too draw

Ladapo’s finish was superb. But 2 moments of hold up play and sublime lay offs were so effective for the team

Season defining game, it was intense as Cowley said and our quality won the day.

I feel this is a monkey of our backs…. Now for that Derby Sky game which will be huge

I was with Swansea that it was a naff ‘purpose’ statement

But we have had a real issue handling the adversity of conceding goals in big matches in front of big crowds… and today we sprinted towards it

I think it is intended to have a parallel to going into a blue light incident

Not a massive fan, but thought apt today

I thought we actually played below par against Sheff Weds, and still went 2-0 up… if we’d played to our potential we’d have walked that game

So it bodes well and I think today is a launch pad to go on a sustained winning run

As we all agree Peterborough, Derby, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Sheff Weds - despite some looking inferior to us - will keep challenging that top two right to the end.

I think it’s a decent enough slogan - especially when explained by the Yankee fireman guys. It’s just about not shrinking from a challenge, keeping moving forward, etc. that’s ok by me!
