Merry Christmas everyone! 13:02 - Dec 25 with 1985 views | hoppy | Sitting in the car, typing this from my usual location for this time of day, for this time of year, and as usual, taken a bit of quiet time out on my own, well, not on my own completely, but the closest I can get to having that little bit of father & son time of reflection. Don’t get me wrong, I am very lucky to be able to enjoy going and seeing my 16yr old son regularly, and the amount of enjoyment and pride I have with seeing Yasmin grow up to be a confident talented girl - 11 going on 21… and although not able to see him growing up, I still don’t ever forget the one that would’ve been 7 1/2 now, so these few moments are very important to me. There seemed more people here again than last year… a number of them may have recently lost loved ones, but I imagine some will be visiting their loved ones lost a while ago, but not come out during the last few years. Some will be glad they’re not in pain or suffering, some may have had to come to terms with difficult situations, and have got their own struggles and visiting those who could no longer cope. Don’t ever be that person that can’t talk to anyone or feel there isn’t anyone they can turn to. If anyone finds themselves in that situation, please do drop me a pm, or any number of others on this board, and I’m sure anyone, as I would, would be willing to have a sit down and a chat. I told myself I wouldn’t ramble on, so apologies for doing so again. Have a wonderful Christmas. Enjoy your loved ones (not in THAT way, Ulla!!)and celebrate in whatever way you can make the most of. Merry Christmas from the house of hoppy, KJ, Yasmin… and on his behalf from here, CT. Much love.

Merry Christmas everyone! on 15:23 - Dec 25 with 1870 views | PJH | I was undecided whether I should intrude on this father/son moment, it would appear that maybe others have made the decision to leave the two of you together untroubled, so sorry for my intrusion. The only reason to come to this site today is to read the wonderful words that you have written for us this year, Hoppy. I can only imagine what it must be like to suffer the sort of loss that you, KJ and Yasmin suffered. Sorry for my intrusion, as I struggle to wipe my tears away.

No intrusion whatsoever, thank you! Wish you and yours (13,11 and whatever their names are now!) a very happy Christmas!

The one that used to be called 11 is now called 16, but another one is called 11! Third one is now called 18.
Merry Christmas everyone! on 16:51 - Dec 25 with 1736 views | Eireannach_gorm | My brother was knocked down and killed over 50 years ago but I still think about how his life was cut short. You never forget but it does receed in the memory. Reflection is good but it should be positive and look at the positive side ( I have 4 other brothers whose lives I can enjoy ). Enjoy the Christmas with your family as the living ones need you more than those who have passed.
Merry Christmas everyone! on 23:56 - Dec 25 with 1527 views | BlueBadger | A very timely post Hoppers. Mate of mine is currently visiting their brother in an ITU Somewhere In The Country having been told that his condition is unsurvivable and that withdrawal of care would be kindest option. I worked a busy night shift Christmas Eve, attending a lot of people on the knife edge last night. For around half of them the the best, most optimal intervention I could offer was a hug to their relatives. I left my shift last night with 3 hanging in the balance. All with a good case for ITU admission. 1 bed available. My day colleagues have since advised me that the sickest went to ITU, one went to an appropriate specialist area and is now stable and the third stayed on the ward, is still unwell but improving apparently thanks to me organising and starting suitable care quick sharpish. I've had a day eating a smashing roast and drinking good booze with my wife and parents, both of whom were severely unwell last year and we'll be celebrating my mum's 70th in the morning. All things told, I think I've done well this Christmas. [Post edited 26 Dec 2022 0:19]

Indeed. After my brief visit to the cemetery, I headed home, and we went down to The Dove for a while to see friends, before then heading to my parents’ for the rest of the day, and a lovely dinner, this was with my brother and his wife, my aunt, cousin and 3 of her children, and my 79 and 82 yr old mum and dad - lovely to enjoy time with them (as you never know how long you have, of course). It’s the right balance of appreciating those you have around you rather than just thinking of those you’ve lost.
