Our league record vs Cambridge 09:04 - Feb 6 with 663 viewsDubtractor

Is bloody terrible.

Played 6.
W1
D3
L2

Just thinking on that record, looking at the first half from Saturday, and considering the debate on whether it is a Derby or not.

Whether we see it as a derby is a moot point here - Cambridge clearly do. They crunched into every challenge in that first half, and were clearly very fired up.

Whereas, by contrast, we were horribly passive. I know McKenna has often spoken of not getting sucked into the emotion of games, but I wonder whether we needed a bit of that on Saturday?

What is it they say? Most teams are a reflection of their manager's personality?

I'm not knocking McKenna in the slightest, but he's one of the more laid-back characters we've had managing us through the years.

We were just so, so passive in that opening half hour. Instead of believing our own hype, we need to start proving it now or else the history books will treat them no more favourably than the likes of Alan Judge and Teddy Bishop.

Two of those results come from 1991-92 when their John Beck side was in its pomp before it fell apart in the play-offs. Not sure it's relevant to why we couldn't beat them on Saturday.

I cant imagine he is behind the scenes though. He certainly isn't on the side-line, he isnt Steve Evans like but he is certainly far from passive. Cant imagine he is on the training pitch.

Having been at five of those matches (not the 1-1 in '92) I'm not really sure there's any theme here. Saturday was the only one we started really badly in, I can't recall them being particularly up for the game last year - and trying to work out whether Saturday's first half was worse than the second half of that match is not an enjoyable prospect.

The Cambridge fans I was sat near were obviously enjoying it but their performance was a long way above everything else they've done recently despite our failings.

It's interesting what the Cambridge manager said about our performance v Morcambe. We looked Angry...

I was expecting the same tenacity on Saturday.

It was almost like the players had woken up and thought, I can't be bothered today.

It was so far away from the last league game it was unreal.

a niche perspective
