Mine was about 3 weeks ago, but it hasn’t really stopped growing despite the cold snap. I’m cutting about once a month right through the winter.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I'm buying a new mower today. Lawn is looking shaggy.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I heard hedge trimmers pulsing away this morning, reminding me that my wife’s front bush could do with a trim.

Thank the lord mine looks like being at least a month away, never needed one before mid March.

Grass doesn't grow in temps lower than 12C? iirc. One of the advantages of living in the frozen North :)

I tend to take the view that cutting the lawn at this time of year only stimulates growth (perhaps a bit like cutting chest hairs), so I am holding out for a bit.

Whether my view is actually true, I don't know, but with the lack of rain we've have, now would certainly be a good time to mow from a practical point of view, as I live on clay, which tends to get very muddy when it rains a lot.

And how soon before bush will need a trim?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

My uncle when he was alive and auntie live in on the south facing slope of a Cornish valley in the countryside, they had to cut all year round.

You busy c***. Fair play though, always feels good to get the first one in. Mine’s been covered in snow for the last three months so it’ll have to wait a few weeks

Saw the first leaf break on a hawthorn earlier this week. Things could well be about to get significantly colder btw(from next weekend). Lovely today though writing this while taking in some very warm sun in the garden.

Gave mine a really good close shave late last year and so far it still looks tidy. Having said that, the summer about three years ago, then last year really screwed both my lawns. All i manage to do now is decapitate the weeds.
