Wonder how many teams have missed out on automatic promotion in the football league with 2 points per game?

Looked back at every 3rd tier table since three points for a win (1981) and no-one has ever missed out.

2ppg = 92.

Many teams have finished second with 92 points or more. So it would have been possible to miss out on 92, but...

I looked back until 1999/00 and no team had got 92 points per game. I was expecting to find a team in that time, so I wasn't originally looking for the highest. But I think in that timeframe 90 by Sheffield United was the highest to miss out

Edit: I got a haircut and didn't look for your edit and just posted as there was no reply

I have now done the maths

NO TEAM EVER has scored two points per game and missed out on automatic promotion in the football league. I have checked every final table since 1981 when three points for a win was introduced. I think that's 123 league seasons.

The hardest league to get out of in modern English football league history.

Wow! That is actually shocking, considering the number of teams that would have got 92+ points in 2nd.

Nobody has yet either! 😅

6 wins and 2 draws to run the risk of being that team. I really fancy us to make another team make history in order to stop us now, and I hope history proves too big an obstacle for the other two to overcome.

A couple of teams have finished 3rd on 90 points in league one I think over the past two decades, with quite a few more in the 86-89 range

It could easily be 90+ this this season, it's absolutely mad!

The pace is astonishing at the moment

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
