Well, they'll spend their entire life packed into tiny spaces, never see the open ocean they evolved to live in and be frozen slowly to death, all so that humans can not suffer by having to pay an extra few pence to eat them, whilst other humans can cram more meaningless wealth into their filthy pockets. But they won't suffer... We are a filthy species, and someday we'll wake up to our own selfishness and stupidity, but it will be far, far too late.

Their proposed lives seems far worse than their terrible deaths, which is saying something. Edit: it brings to mind those scenes in the Matrix with humans-as-batteries farms. This must be insufferable for a vegan to read my hypocrisy though. sh1t. [Post edited 16 Mar 2023 10:08]

I'm not a vegan myself although I don't eat dairy, cow or sheep. So all my rants on here are hypocritical to a large degree as well and I own that. We did evolve as omnivores, so I don't have a philosophical problem with eating any meat, but we have to accept where we are in carbon dioxide and methane emissions terms, and also we have to accept personal accountability as 'end users' for unspeakable cruelty that goes on to provide us all with cheap meat. I'd absolutely welcome anyone who says to me "You can't take any moral high ground, you eat pork and fish which is farmed," because they would be right, and I need to challenge myself as much as most other people do.

But it would be nonsense. I fully appreciate that vegans think killing any animal for food is wrong but when they refuse to acknowledge that there is any difference between factory farming and more humane farming just because the end result is the same it really doesn't do animals any favours. If we use a cow as an example, would it wish to spend its days living a normal live munching on grass with lots of space to walk around or be factory farmed? The idea you can't oppose things like this because you eat meat is ridiculous. The RSPCA have a food label they let companies put on their packaging if it meets certain conditions. Although the end result is the same, this system has led to a lot of animals having a much better life. FWIW I post this as someone who is very sympathetic to veganism. I'm probably 80-90% plant based.
