Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD 16:57 - Mar 10 with 27571 viewsSitfcB

What a load of twaddle, fair play to him for sticking to his guns, can imagine he disagreed with them when they told him to probably delete the tweet and not to comment in the future.

Seems a bit much given that they were happy to allow Jeremy Clarkson to be openly racist for YEARS.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Ridiculous decision. Nobody that works for the BBC is allowed to share their personal opinions on government policies! That just plain censorship!

Was reading the other day that this might be more to do with him proving to HMRC that he isn't a Paid BBC Employee, a freelance to get around his £4.9m fine for being outside IR35.

The government can't handle the truth. The Rwanda plan is a rip-off of the Madagascar Plan.

Presumably, in the interests of fairness, they’ll also be getting rid of Alan Sugar from the Apprentice for voicing his support for Boris Johnson?

Really stupid call from them. It will just attract more attention to the issue and they'll end up walking it back when they realise how much support he has. Would be quite entertaining if they do sheepishly allow him back on, only for him to resign. All power to Gary Crisps.

I thought we were supposed to be a country with free speech? Cancel culture strikes again. Ridiculous decision.

I will boycott MOTD until he is reinstated. At least I won’t have to suffer listening to Danny Murphy.

And Fiona Bruce from QT, who has for years been handling the show in a biased manner, allowing tories to rabbit on for several minutes but cutting short all others after a few seconds, before they've even had a chance to make their points - even occasionally adding pro-Tory comments of her own, despite supposedly only being there as neutral presenter/chair.

Fiona Bruce, on QT last, should take a good hard look at herself. Defending domestic violence BJ dad, by stating that it was a one-off (which it wasn’t). As chair, she would have known that this was likely to have come up and that is how to defended it. It is a disgrace.

I watched that last night and could hardly believe my ears.
They may have well as called it the Clarke and Jenryk show. Would like to see the airtime stats from last night.

For the record, I'm a huge advocate of the BBC and have no problem with the license fee, nor the presenters wages.
However, this is the mother of all fudge ups.
I just despair sometimes.

Yep, just caught the last few minutes of it last night - shameful.

Armando Iannucci guesting on R4 a few mins ago highlighted the beeb's hypocrisy, citing Sugar & O'Neil.

Followed by John Whittingdale MP (con), who inevitably blustered on about how perfectly reasonable & justified it was to suspend GL.

I hope Lineker tells them where to stick it. He will absolutely stroll into ITV, Sky, BT, whoever without a care in the world.

Likewise.

Can't help wondering what old grandees like David Attenborough & John Simpson are making of it all. Shaking their heads in despair, I wouldn't be surprised.

No idea how accurate this is, but is presented as an excerpt of a BBC Freelance contract.

Which appears to say it's ok for Lineker to comment on politics privately, but not Andrew Neill who hasn't faced censure. And his job is politics.

Wrong link. Will have to til home

Isn't it ironic that the phrase 1930s Germany is responded to in a fashion erring on the "Goebbals"
