Do well Derby Didzy's glum he's not Blue 19:21 - Apr 1 with 1946 viewsMullet

A once in a lifetime moment today. Missing kickoff as I sat on the M6 for an eternity and all the A roads in known distance were snarled up too. Due at Derby for 12:30 I ran more like a man in a romcom from the industrial park to my seat as 3 mins of the game had passed by. These are the travails of following a club.

And you may find yourself, shouting at the chief steward from distance your name and how you're the idiot he spoke to on his Dad's phone wanting that ticket you're holding for him. I could've kissed his face for letting my old man see the start as I had no idea how delayed I'd be.

But it was worth missing out. Unlike Leif Davis we were out there to see Town break apart a Derby side who don't give much away at home. From Walton's hands, charging forward, a whip across the channels, nod it down, let the little fella sweep it home. Town's play was courageous, it was Dutch vintage 1998, it was Miquid football. A sign of the Championship to come.

Derby fans seemed a bit miffed about a lot of things. Whether it was the clear foul/handball/offside that saw their goal definitely correctly chalked off. A team whose fans travel in numbers, us not singing for a bit. Even the ref's inconsistent use of cards in their favour saw them bleating as their players kept on cheating.

And you may find yourself wondering why Rooney hauling his man down and Town being so good that when play finally stopped minutes later, didn't get carded. Or their pathetic penalty shouts were waved away whilst Burns and Chaplin being clipped on their way past their man at any distance from goal went unnoticed.

The game had everything. Narky challenges, protests, Luke Woolfenden looking like he came from an unknown Rolls Royce factory in deepest Suffolk, Didsy bringing the ball down like the Chinese had launched it and not his centre half for the umpteenth time. You name it, all it needed was a red card somewhere to feel complete.

And you may find yourself looking around at another superb away end counting flags not looking for bedsheets, so much was the positivity and nervous crackle across the rows. There were times when shots were sliced, runs went right past the whole Derby defence and supporting attackers, but often it was the vision of Town's players which saw enough openings in the Rams' tired legs to force an inevitable second.

Burns lived up to his name and blasted past all comers, scrambling to contain him and catch the loose ball it was Hirst who raided like a Commando and had the home side's pants down. A necessary finish to the move and to the game.

It was scruffy at times, it was hard to watch, there was danger at unexpected moments, not least from the big lad who fell on us celebrating the second, and when Town made changes you felt they were for the right reasons. Derby started to get through and Clarke already booked was giving way to Janoi. Man to man defender extraordinaire and earlier conspirator in Burns' numbers this season and last. He brought a solidifying presence.

And you may find yourself looking at the return of Ball just as we commemorate the second coming of one saviour, and wonder how did Town get here? Many lost faith, but the depth of our squad, the healing powers of the backroom staff, the coaching that seems to answer questions most of us have yet to formulate all provide the momentum which sees Town charging back into promotion contention.

You can't imagine McKenna or players letting the games go by until we make it can you?

Gracias old fruit.

Woke up several times last night. Dunno if it's the kids, the adrenaline or my age. But looking at different messages, it's clear how much belief we showed yesterday. The players are really turning up and I think this feels more like Lyall than Burley.

Not that we were unfancied or underdogs, but that run in and the way under Burley you ended up waiting to miss out. This time, not so much.

It's certainly not the same as it ever was.

Firstly, Thank you. It’s reading these type of posts on a Sunday morning over a coffee that just carry on that amazing feeling of a win and a day that was as big as ever.
What a day, what a win, whatever happened to the Ipswich that couldn’t handle the pressure games and beating top 6 sides.
We’re on our way.
Thanks again again.

Will be great to see us do the business without a trip to Wembley frankly. I also think it helps with recruitment if we come from this, but that's a minor point.

Glad you enjoyed my bobbins, cheers.

Pun excellency aside, that's a serious point. You feel a bit like Leeds or Forest in that having served our time down here; it doesn't feel like we will be back for some time. Quite the opposite.
