This suggests one such request was rather tongue-in-cheek, but it also highlighted the hypocrisy involved.

It's more the case that they are extremist social conservatives dressing up in religion. After all, they concentrate on a few narrow issues only.
Base their hatred of abortion on 'Thou shalt not kill', yet support the death penalty and mass gun ownership. Ignore Jesus' approach to capital punishment: 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' (then didn't himself).
Rail against homosexuality while not following all the rest of the Mosaic Law (e.g. food rules, not doing anything on a Saturday), of which that forms just one small part. Preach morality, yet give a free pass to philanding old Donald Trump.
Ignore all of Jesus' teachings on caring for the poor, downtrodden and helpless, instead worshipping the rich. Let alone caring for their neighbours as themselves.
