Those women killed in The West Bank. 17:04 - Apr 16 with 1229 views | noggin | A tragedy of course, but why do the media describe killings of Jews as 'murder', but when Israel kills Palestinians, it's simply 'killed'?

The actual news report is stating they were murdered. That is true of course.

Aye, although it says murdered in the first paragraph. Yet when you google "Palestinians murdered" no obvious hits come up with the word murdered - it's all 'killed' instead. I can't say I'd ever noticed it, but it seems like noggers may have a point. Maybe. Someone would have to trawl through loads of articles to get a decent sample size to prove it or not. Edit - although a lot of other media outlets using 'killed' for this particular event, so fugg knows! [Post edited 16 Apr 2023 17:19]

Those women killed in The West Bank. on 08:50 - Apr 17 with 564 views | DJR | Israel is a Western nation, and I don't think the way the British media describes the actions of its security forces is really any different to the way the media describes those of any Western nation, including the UK. The same is true of the action of a Western ally, Saudi Arabia, in relation to its involvement in Yemen. Atrocities, including the killing of civilians, are unreported, under-reported or played down, whether in war or otherwise, if they are carried out by, or with the support of, the West. To take an example closer to home, this is what the coroner (a former British army Major) said at the inquest into Bloody Sunday in 1973. "It strikes me that the Army ran amok that day and shot without thinking what they were doing. They were shooting innocent people. These people may have been taking part in a march that was banned but that does not justify the troops coming in and firing live rounds indiscriminately. I would say without hesitation that it was sheer, unadulterated murder." Despite these comments (which were criticised by Ian Paisley on the basis that the coroner was a Catholic), I can't believe the British media subsequently referred to the killings as murder, particularly given the Widgery Inquiry whitewash. Indeed, it was only with the Saville Inquiry Report in 2010 that the truth emerged. [Post edited 17 Apr 2023 10:41]
