I think the approach is broadly fine but there needs to be some much better judgement utilised. The first innings this last Test a case in point, England weren't playing that recklessly last Summer or over the Winter. Root's much more patient century in the first Test reflects much better judgement, instead he had two goes at getting out and it was all fairly pointless. The bowling on day 1 was dreadful too, that gave up far too many easy runs. That's a problem because Stokes clearly isn't properly fit to bowl so everything else is shuffling around that. Actually as well as Stokes played, his reluctance to run twos probably played a big part in England getting slightly stuck with 70-odd runs needed. I can only assume that was down to the knee too. | |
