Interview with Leif Davis in the S*n…. 05:49 - Aug 19 with 2582 viewsKieran_Knows

… interesting snippet from there as well about us not consolidating this season 👀.

And Davis says the talk at Portman Road has not been about consolidating in the second tier but getting into the Premier League.

He said: “We spoke about it in the week leading up to the new season. We said, ‘We’re not coming here to have a jolly up.’ As a team, we want to make a statement, go for it again and try to get promoted.

“You want to keep pushing and pushing and take the team into the Premier League. That’s what we need to do. That is where our focus should be.”

Big couple of weeks left in this transfer market … over to you Mark.

'I think he possibly can coach even higher. There has been a bit of interest. A few managers when they got sacked in the Premier League, a few eyes turned to him straight away.'

That's just as revealing... Davis basically saying he knew of clubs approaching us for KMac. Which ones I wonder? Brighton you'd assume. Perhaps Southampton after Hasenhuttl?

It certainly highlights how important this season is. We do need to push hard for promotion this season whilst we have this momentum. The manager will want proper backing and the top players too that want premier league football will want to know we are on that path.

We need 3 pts today and QPR can be a tough place to play, seen us lose there more often than win so we need to be fully at it. Their crowd even though small can get going on all sides of the ground.

Poll: How are we going to try and undermine the manager today?

Actually, I don’t think consolidation and having a tilt at promotion are that mutually exclusive given we’re maintaining the core squad from last season.

Keeping that confidence, momentum and togetherness going from last year is probably the best way to ensure we establish a platform in the Championship. For me it’s consolidation but with an upwardly mobile aim — and just like last January showed — we can add to that base with a few key signings to take us up another level.

The good news is that we can almost certainly add quality and necessary cover in a few key positions (CB, CF and probably AM with Edwards moving on/not seen as strong enough to start). But we don’t NEED to upgrade any first-choice players. That’s a very positive and secure position to be in and means we can be looking forward rather than over our shoulders.

I dont think its that revelatory really, its just classic sports psychology positive thinking, aka the quote "shoot for the moon because if you miss youll end up among the stars."

push for promotion, even if you miss youll probably be better placed than if youd tried to defend against relegation instead.

I’m pleased they are setting a high bar. In the short run, this season based on momentum and possibly next with a year of progress and key additions will be the best chance for many to ever make the PL. For others, Leif included if it’s not done in that short timeframe he may very well be the kind of player that needs to move, help bankroll itfc for a go at it in seasons 2, 3 and beyond whilst allowing him to realise a dream. That’s football.

I’d prefer they all go at it, make a few small adjustments between now and Jan then get it done back to back 🤌🏻
