..the original post included a now widely discredited version of events and think the thread had become a thread about the thread.

Think it's worth posters checking sources, veracity of stories before posting them and also having an eye on the sensitivities relating to the issue overall.

And perhaps a generally less antagonistic level of debate would be helpful.

Even you might understand, you could be wrong. Sometimes it's easier to admit it, even if you lose face.

What is wrong is the frequency of people going after the poster instead of debating the wider issue. There is entirely way too much of a tendency to call/imply someone is racist or prejudice before considering that they may not know where the source material they are referencing might originate from. During war and conflict there is a lot of propaganda on all sides of the conflict and going after individuals obfuscates from the more important debate.

As well you know, during the brexit era - Pickles was keen to go after individuals in this manner and he rightly met the end to his miserable existence on this board, so for me personally, I hope history doesn't repeat.

There is an increasing tendency these days in all sorts of areas to suppress debate by playing the man rather than the ball. Character assassination is not debate.

No intention to character assassinate, as you put it. I felt the response by the poster was sarcastic, as is often the case.

It's not a question of just getting facts right, it's also a question of people keep arguing even when evidence against them mounts up, and they refuse to acknowledge opposing views.

With so much propaganda floating about, no one really knows the truth, but surely we should all remain open minded.

I took the post to which I responded to be a general one about people on TWTD attacking others personally which is pretty common and which I dislike.

And I was also pointing out that it goes on widely these days.

I often read your posts, even though we share different views.

I do however respect you, therefore i wanted to respond to you.

Thanks.

The world would be a dull place if we all had the same views, and I especially think it is necessary to moderate one's views and not make it personal, if dealing with someone with opposing views.

And I know that some on here complain about TWTD being a bit too left wing for their liking, but I tend to think that the reverse would be the case if we had had 13 years of Labour in power.
