...a lot sooner than he thinks, too. He should have been out of a job by October 2009.

His mistake was to try and change too much too soon and isolated much of the squad, I get it, he worked under Clough and Ferguson and that's how he was brought up in the game. We didn't have an edge or a winners mentality, he was 100% correct we needed some change, but had he stuck with the core of Richard Wright, Richards, David Wright, McAuley, Bruce, Garvan, Miller, Norris and Counago and introduced better standards of players around them we would have made progress, instead he mentally broke, and released those players and he brought people in who didn't deliver and let him down.

I do give him some credit for bedding in some youngsters at the time in Eastman, O'Conner and Tommy Smith too even if two of those ultimately didn't work out, he at least tried to bring talent through. He was absolutely right to knock the likes of Thatcher, Lisbie and co on the head, but we had an alright team, Delaney was a good addition, Colback a decent loan, we did need a trade up on Stead and Walters obviously wanted to leave, Edwards was a good player too, Leadbitter was okay but there was a number of those people such as Martin, Priskin and such who werent up to it at all.

I couldn’t watch the Twitter clip but instead I’ve just watched it on YouTube and one of the comments on there did make me laugh - ‘A real man holds his hands up and admits when he didn’t do a good job or wasn’t right for the role. Fair play to keano for saying this. That’s a quality missing in the world these days, not just football’.

It’s only taken almost thirteen years for him to take almost full responsibility (plus a couple of autobiographies) and not mock the club.

Think you’re over complicating matters.

When Keane arrived we were a team that was on the cusp of the playoffs. When he left, we were a team heading for L1. In between he brought badly, coached badly and conceived to take the club ten years backwards.

At the time, having cash was a major advantage in the Championship and at that point Marcus Evans had not gone full Marcus on the club. Keane wasted what he was given and like many bad managers blamed everyone apart from himself. Great player, awful manager and when the going gets tough he runs away.

He’s said this many times before. Pretty sure it’s in a book of his…which must be a riveting read for stating the obvious!

He clearly isn't cut out for football management, he doesn't seem to have the temperament for it or emotional intelligence to manage people, nor the tactical nous. He's the sort of manager I can see getting an initial 'bounce' and reaction at Championship level, maybe a bit of awe from a group of players that remember him as a player, and a fear factor, but once things go south there's probably little coming back for him. With time that fades too, I don't suppose many professional players today remember his playing career. He's a complex character by all accounts, some of the stories about him from those that played under him are beyond belief.

As you say he spunked a lot of money, wained ME's enthusiasm, he was tactically terrible and clearly not a man manager either. We were so predictable under Keane, those days of 4 centre halves across the back 4 were absolutely dire. He was a complete car crash of a manager and given the circumstances, what he inherited, and the tools he was given there's a good argument he's the worst of all the dross we've had over the past 15 years.

His main problem is that he was a terrible football manager.

Keane is easily our worst ever manager. Only Lambert and Hurst come close.

Other Evans era managers might have played bad football, alienated players, bought badly, wasted budgets, coached badly or not at all, should have lost their jobs sooner than they did or enjoyed inexplicable levels of popularity despite their obviously fraudulent nature and still have people making excuses for them but Keane combined ALL those things.

He set the tone for the entire Evans era.

I am just trying to put it in the context of the time, and knowing the man and the background he came from. He came in, looking at a comfortable set up that had produced no winners for 9 years at that point and tried to break the culture with old school style. It is fair to say, our reasonable Championship players, and the people coming in, did not take well to that mentality and were broken by it and lets be honest the likes of Bruce, Garvan and co. did absolutely break under Keane. We did need a competitive edge again, it had become too easy and too comfortable and it was a key part on why we didn't push on with that side. It has been alluded to by former players too. I am not saying he was a good manager for us, I am just saying early doors I think we could all see what he was trying to do. He also didn't benefit from a signing like Gio to prop up that team, like Jim did!

We finished eight points from the playoffs - not good enough and Jim was sacked. However, Keane came in and made everything worse. Gio came here due to links made between Klug and Spurs and Jim utilised that link to his advantage. Keane had the same contacts as Nim - indeed much more - but due to his personality he was never able to take advantage of his links with Man Utd and Celtic etc.

Garvan and Bruce didn’t need to be broken - that’s if they were. They were good championship players who played in the PL.

In short, Keane was a complete disaster. Nothing more, nothing less and there are no external circumstances that make his tenure easy to understand here.
