Too slow, guilty of overplaying, no killer instinct 15:16 - Jan 27 with 1176 viewscbower

After the first 25 minutes, today reminded of parts of mcKenna's first season and the spell before and after Christmas last year. We moved the ball too slowly, tried to play through them and took too many ppot shots with low chances of scoring. If Broadhead and Buabo are our alternatives to Jackson for the remainder of the season in the no 9 role, we will limp into the playoffs at best. Taylor was dross too.

Agree. That was the most annoying thing about today, so pedestrian & lacking in energy and pace throughout the team. That's unacceptable, whoever is selected to play, and had a sense of arrogance about it. If that had been an Alex Ferguson team they'd have got the hairdryer treatment at half-time. Somehow don't think that's McKenna's style. Make no mistake, McKenna's reputation will have taken a knock from this result.

Spot on. Our tempo in the first 25mins was exactly how I expected us to treat the game. Professional and showing the difference in quality and sharpness between the two clubs and their respected divisions. On another day, Maidstone are 4-0 down before their goal.

The rest of the game, in particular most of the 2nd half, the ball was moved nowhere near quick enough. It was almost like we moved into a complacent gear and extra touches were being taken thinking we were just going to score, it doesn’t matter too much.

I think that what some posters are forgetting is that KM is still a young and inexperienced manager and like a young player, he is continuously learning and will make mistakes. Yesterday proves why he is best served to stay here rather than move to a PL club where each bad result will be highlighted much more than yesterday’s. Which, despite some of the hyperbole on here, no one will really care about next week.

Need a proper, credible striker. If only there was a mid-season transfer window....😉

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I’m not sure how much a bit more ‘speed of play’ would have helped when they were camped out in their own box. Virtually every shot was blocked, the best chances we had were crossed in but our headers were pretty woeful bar a couple of good saves. That is where we were missing Hirst’s strength and height in the box.

The speed of play was lacking but they had 9 or 10 on the edge of the 18 yard box and behind. I did think when Wes Burns came in he increased the speed of play greatly on his side. In another universe his top cornee shot was the equaliser, top save from MoM their keeper.

I feel it affects Kierans reputation as there was many of our first team on for the last 30 minutes and even without a number 9 (Kieran sold of Ladapo himself), it affects his reputation which means he would best stay with us learning from it.
