if we are ever at Cardiff or Swansea again. This is mad, maybe the aggression caused the Plod to act or maybe they had asked him to walk away the first time before he came back.

I reckon there must be more to it than that, but the Mail wants to make it about "woke" in the police/sport.

Well, thats what I thought, it seems a spectacularly over the top response.

Whilst I'm of the age of sticks and stones, clearly racist comments are abhorrent and should not be tolerated.

At what point does it work both ways? It has to right? Respect does work both ways.

Harsh perhaps as we're probably all numb to being called something such as an 'English *******' , but reality is that it has to happen.

I really don't understand the story at all. If he had been shouting 'you b*stards', instead of 'you english b*stards' would he still be in trouble?

And if not would he have been in trouble for shouting 'You English' ?

What race is English? How different is the English race to the Welsh race?
Why would anyone consider being called English offensive? Did the police check if the Tranmere fans were indeed illegitimate?
You are right that it has to go both ways, but we shouldn't be so sensitive.

OK, now let's unpack this (now there's a woke concept for you...) English is a nationality, not a race (also true of Wales) and can include British Asians, British Caribbeans, Anglo-Saxons, Celts, Vikings and a multitude of others (also true of Wales, because the principality confusingly does have an obvious and self evident nationality.)

The British (which used to include the Irish but, careful now, for the most part does not) can be viewed as having an offensive (due to going off colonising in a predatory manner) history - but that involves heightening some aspects of the history and lessening other aspects, and completely ignoring the suffering of the poor and downtrodden of these islands.

Finally, when so many children are born out of wedlock these days and usually to couples who want their relationships to endure without the baggage of a law enforced contract, should bastard be considered offensive ? Maybe it is time for the attitude to the word to change so that it is accepted as a term of a noble attempt at bringing a life into this World so that it can flourish. On the other hand, Anglo-Saxon swear words are maybe the guttsiest in the World and manage to take some of the best things in life and make them sound like what they describe has been done over and dragged through slurry.

English people are a variety of races, mate, so whilst it might be xenophobic to call people "English bastards" it isn't racist.

Although nationality and national origins do fall under the definition of "racial group" for the purposes of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/37/part/II/crossheading/raciallyaggrav

"“racial group” means a group of persons defined by reference to race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins."

Seems excessive, but there probably isn't a provision to ban him for just being a tw*t! He's unlucky, as you hear loads of examples of this sort of stuff at every match with Welsh/English teams.

Can be considerable. I'm Suffolk back many generations and DNA shows considerable links to our neighbours across the North Sea but absolutely 0% Welsh. How important is that, though? Not in the slightest.
