Starmer's turn then 17:53 - May 22 with 1376 views | Swansea_Blue | What do you reckon? A better choice of venue, not getting soaked. Flag-shagging is obviously going to be a theme. Good to hear messages of country before party, if it's true. And good to here the rebuild message. That's the obvious one for me - someone needs to fix the Tory's mess and rebuild. Devil in the detail for what that means though. And part of that will be the Europe question. He's obviously feeling confident, as he's gunning for the SNP and not just the Tories. He needs to find some really strong messages, which he's been reluctant to do up until now for fear of giving the Tories any ammunition. I don't see how he can run an election campaign on being ambiguous, so he has to shift into policy detail. His reaction to the election announcement was well prepared and made a lot of sense. But after that, who knows. A lot of people seem to think he'll suddenly pivot into full Labour once he's one. I don't see that - I think what we see now is what we'll get. It'll be much better, more competent that the Tories, but revolutionary? I doubt it. (I'll take 'better' though for now).

Ahh so you do think the Tories have taken the country backwards. Hard not to disagree.

Sums it up, doesn’t it? We’ve just had a mini-heatwave. According to the forecasts, tomorrow’s dry with sunny spells at 5pm. They can’t get anything right.

He could have simply made a statement in the House of Commons. It used to be one of the key planks of the "unwritten Constitution" that important ministerial statements were made in the House first. And now it is televised there is no reason at all why important statements to the country shouldn't be made in Parliament.
