McKenna was honest about the other interest and his own ambitions, makes it seem like he can trust us to back him (and the team) and visa versa

He couldn't not mention it. Let's not sugar-coat it.

If he has just one more (relatively-speaking) successful year here before he leaves, then I'd be delighted.

Could be we're all a little bit better for that experience and we'll be better prepared for it next time.

Did we ever expect otherwise? McKenna has always treated us as intelligent people who can handle an explanation of the real situation. He does it in pre- and post-game interviews. It is now no different when talking about his new contract and long-term ambitions.

It's also why we have a cadre of clever and resourceful players who are able to continually turn games to our advantage.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

What other option did he have given that his every move for the last two weeks has been plastered all over the media? Not acknowledging what has been going on would have been impossible.

Did find it funny when he mentions it’s a short career. Aged 38 you’d think as long as he’s in good health that he has 30+ years in this game still

It is right that he did. He had to really. McKenna seems quite a ‘straight’, honest person. I don’t sense any deviousness in him, though that’s just an impression and tbf you have to know people to really come to that conclusion.

I still don’t like how all this was carried out. If it was his Agent poking the big beasts + Brighton, he needs to get a grip of him. If it’s other clubs using the media, it’s up to McKenna to make it clear that’s not the way he will do business - unless he is happy with the last two weeks.

Am I being naive here? Probably, not least because I know nothing about the football world. I do though know that I would not be happy with the way this was done (through the media), however overjoyed I am about the result, and would take steps to ensure no repeat.
