Do you think the club have found the mole? 08:54 - Aug 7 with 2233 viewsDarkBrandon

It was pretty striking how early in the transfer window there were lots of stories in the press about players we were after and bids we’d placed. Some of these came off, some didn’t, but the stories seemed to be fairly accurate. This was quite different to our largely quiet approach to transfer dealings over the last two years.

Now though the stories have stopped.

We can’t have just stopped looking for players. The squad is short of numbers, experience and quality (at least in PL terms).

So I’m wondering if the source of the stories in the club has been identified and guided appropriately.

Transfer market for the most up until now has been pretty quiet anyway. Not sure if it’s something to do with the Euros , FFP etc. Discussion on TalkSport yesterday were it was muted there’s perhaps a recession in football.

Loads of things in the equation but I don’t think “finding a mole” is one of them

What about the Greek journalist who broke the news in their striker over there? What about Pete O'Rourke who broke about our interest in Philogene and Greaves (IIRC). What about David Ornstein and Alan Nixon breaking the news about the signing of Muric from Burnley?

I think the club will know that they're not asking the poor Cheltenham journalist to keep quiet about our interest in players anymore. If David Ornstein is breaking news about us, there's nothing they can do about that.

Buying clubs tend to want bids secret as they won’t want to alert potential rivals to that players signature. Selling clubs will be the other way round in order to perk up interest in their players.

I doubt that transfers stay quiet for too long as there are too many parties involved - players, agents and clubs.

Journalists and the like will find any way they can to obtain info. Casual talk by a player or member of staff, snooping around, following certain people. The higher up the Leagues the more interest, whether rubbish or otherwise. We unfortunately wait with bated breath for the next big signing especially if it's a great deal and an exciting prospect. Agents it appears are putting names forward to clubs and possibly making out there's interest even if it drums up interest from other parties. I hope we soon sign a couple more as we ate only 10 days from Liverpool and as some have alluded to in at least one position we are an injury away from using a player that couldn't get in the team in the Championship.
