Endurance - watch it in cinemas while you can 17:52 - Oct 27 with 1163 views | ThisIsMyUsername | If interested in Shackleton's story or simply human endurance itself. Having read about the expedition numerous times, and having visited the James Caird in Dulwich, I've never been so glued to a chair from start to finish. Endurance - watch it in cinemas while you can on 20:59 - Oct 27 with 1043 views | Churchman | I’m looking forward to seeing it. Shackleton’s story is amazing. He lived in the age of explorers. People who almost beyond 21c imagination. I’ve read plenty on him. He was flawed in so many ways and brilliant in so many others. To stop me banging on I’ll summarise it this way. Shackleton’s trans Antarctic expedition that began in 2014 is one of the most astonishing feats of survival, endurance (sorry to use his ship’s name) leadership and skill you can ever wish to read about. It was a never ending story almost in that every step of the way from when Endurance was lost could have led to the death of them all. And it actually happened.

'Shackleton’s trans Antarctic expedition that began in 2014 is one of the most astonishing feats of survival, endurance' Indeed it is, given that he would have been 140 years old when he set off!

One line that stuck out while watching was "it is a story of failure". While technically true, how they succeeded in surviving to a man is absolutely unbelievable. The navigation to get the Caird to Elephant Island beggers belief. If it had slipped past then the entire expedition would have died and we'd not have this story.
