Why have Phillips. Johnson etc on the bench Tuesday If we are still assessing their fitness even now.

Just an observation but you seem to take everything the manager says as gospel and then come on here to have a little moan. Not everything is going to be exactly as he says. Just like when he said he was happy with our points total in a previous presser. There's going to be some managerial license.

It's pretty obvious. Players can be not 100% fit so start on the bench. Assessing means assessing how fit they are - are they ready to start or do they need to be benched again? Fit enough to make some sort of impact if needed... but not fully fit to risk starting and therefore much longer on the pitch.
